Kid (got just one).
how: With my hand.
when: When he disobeys.
where: On his bottom.
why: Because sometimes he doesn't listen.
Its a rare occurrence, but it sends a message.
I don't like to do it, yet it is effective.
Usually, one swat on the rear (he's usually wearing pants) and not very hard, does the trick.

The only time I spank my kids is when they are doing something dangerous. Like the time my daughter was playing on a pogo stick on a on a 4' square landing above a 2 story flight of stairs.
How hard and how much they get spanked is in direct relationship to the likelihood that they are about to kill themselves...

Yes, I did. There is a big difference between spanking your child for getting into something they should not and beating your child. Sometimes, this time-out, taking toys and games away, and many other so called ways does not work. And spanking is not child abuse, beating your child is. If you spank your child in public today, you go to jail. My parents, grandparents, my children, and my grandchildren have been brought up with the traditional method of correcting a child from harm. We have all turned out just fine. I have seen so many people get there children taken away from them for spanking. And took them months to get their children back. But, they send children back in the home where they were beaten, abused, and molested in less than 24 hours. Explain that.

I'll take the liberty of changing your question to the past tense.
My daughters are now in their 30s. I never spanked them. Instead, I explained to them in detail why I loved them but I hated whatever bad thing they were doing. According to my daughters, they WISHED that they could get away with a spanking, but now they are glad that I took the time to inculcate responsibility in them
(And it seems to have worked. I now have three independent and responsible adult daughters who are my dearest friends!)

I don't have kids, but if we do I would probably spank them as a last resort.

NO! The only thing it teaches is that it is ok to hit when you are angry. Spanking is old testament and should be abolished!

First of all I don't have any kids, but I did spend a lot of years babysitting and I still do.
How: With whatever I can grab that won't kill them or admit them into a hospital
When: When they get out of line
Where: Grocery store, home, church...wherever the crime occurs
Why: DISCIPLINE (junior terrorist, killers, snipers, Osama, Chucky, etc....)

never. i just answered another question like this....my father left welp marks on our arms and legs... sometimes we were struck with the buckle of his leather belt......other times, inprints of an extension cord...i do not spank my kids and never will. children are INNOCENTS --they are only learning the world. i believe in discipling by talking to them to make they understand their wrongdoings, giving them time-out, taking away nintendo, etc....but to physcially inflict pain --hell no!! if i didn't like it, why would i do it to my own??!!! The cycle has got to stop!!!!
