That's a tough question, but you have to keep in mind that it's only a lie if the person you're lying to has a RIGHT to know the truth about your friend, and is not just out of curiousity.
From there, I guess the conscience is the best guide.

I guess it depends what my friend did like if they murdered someone then I wouldn't lie. I fmy friend was in danger then I would lie to protect them.

depends on the situation, but usually I would say no. there are some cases though........I mean who can really say absolutely not? like if you were a real friend and your friend's life was in danger you wouldn't lie to save them.

Absolutely not. If my friend has done something wrong, me lying about it not only drags me in to their business, but it also puts my reputation on the line for someone who I know has screwed up.
