Firstly, I don't hold the Bible as my ultimate moral authority - and neither do a lot of other people - so that the bible says no is neither here nor there for me.
I have learned over the course of my life, that what I do in my personal life is no one else's business. The things I do and the lifestyle I lead is a private matter between me, those I do it with and my maker. If I can do something and feel good about myself and the people I love are happy, I am sure to be on the right track. I believe this to be true for each and every one of us.
Now there is no denying that same sex relationships are out there. They live together, they have or adopt children together. These families have been around for a long time. What they are asking for is the legal rights that go along with a legal union - to receive the spouse's pension when the spouse dies, to be considered the primary person to make decisions when their spouse is in the hospital, to be eligible for health insurance as a spouse. While many would like a lovely spiritual wedding, I think a simple justice of the peace wedding would be sufficient and not include any church.
The issue of whether it is moral or not really has nothing to do with the legal side of this, in a country that holds with seperation of church and state. If Christians don't want to provide wedding ceremonies for gays, that's fine - they can all go to another faith - oh my! I think we have hit upon the reason why this has become a political issue.
The big Religions don't want to have to perform these ceremonies, but they don't want to lose those church donations either - so if the government rules against, then they get to shrug their shoulders at the would be couple and say "sorry - not legal". And of course let's not forget the fact that the government is saving by not distributing Spousal social security benefits to these gay tax payers (though wouldn't they get less as a couple rather than 2 individuals up until one dies?) ad nauseum, really.
It's a tangle, but it has a lot less to do with "will people go to hell?" than it does "how can the churches, insurance companies and government keep their bottom line balanced", in my opinion.

Well, what the bible says means nothing to a lot of people. If you don't believe in the bible, then why follow it?
Some people think that same sex marriage is a human right that everyone has. What they don't see is that same sex relationships are just against nature. S#x was created for one reason, to produce new life. This is impossible in same sex relationships, therefore it is wrong to engage in s#xual activity with one of the same sex.
But what about people that are same sex oriented? Don't they have a right? Yes, but not to indulge their feelings. Just because I have a natural tendency to drinking, doesn't mean I have an excuse for being a drunkard. No, I have to fight my tendency.
It is hard to argue this point fully on a site like this. However, I hope that in reading some of the excellent posts here, people might be more receptive to the truth in the future when they see it. Cheers!
*edit*
In addition, if you are born with a homosexual tendency, you can't just say "God made me this way." You are right he doesn't make mistakes, but perhaps this is just your cross in life. If you are attracted to one of the same sex, and you resist this attraction because it is wrong, then don't you think that that is the virtuous thing to do? God gave you an opportunity to gain spiritual treasures, so why not take it?

A few reasons for you:
- The bible also claims that mixing fabrics is wrong, eating pork is wrong, women braiding their hair or wearing jewelry is wrong, and that you should kill a disobedient child. So, if we're gonna get upset at gays, we gotta get upset at everybody else.
- Christianity does NOT have a monopoly on marraige.
- Two people who love each other, and want to commit to eachother the rest of their lives should have the right to do so. Who are you to tell them they can't because its not your personal preference to do so?
- This is the same attitude that circled around 50 years ago. Some states had laws against marrying outside your race...they used the same arguements people use today against gays.

The bible says alot of things that people don't follow today. I think same sex marriage is RIGHT! Never is love wrong. Let people be free to believe and live as they choose. Let God be the judge. Not that I really believe God judges people like that but when talking to a christian, speak christian.

The bible is ancient. Get with the new times. I'm not gay/lesbian but hey Im not against them. They are the most awesome, genuine, fun loving people you'll ever meet. No wonder they want to marry eachother!! I'ver been wanting a gay friend for years to hang with cause the seriously are VERY nice people. More loyal than many opposite sex. If you found someone...anyone that you decided to spend the rest of your life with..and you would do anything for.. you would marry right?? So we cant they?

"Because the bible says its wrong"
?
Are there any religious people out there who can actually give an opinion without using the bible as a crutch?
Gays have the same rights as straights. If two gays want to get married, no one should be allowed to tell them otherwise.

people don't care about the Bible..and they think that the Bible is talking about something else...they have crazy explanations to get around that what they are doing is actually in the Bible and is wrong to God. Also I'm sure that if your having gay sex you don't care a whole lot about God and the Bible anyway.

The Bible says that if there is an illegitimate child in your family tree (during the past ten generations) you cannot go to church. It also says that you cannot go to church if you are male and your genitalia is damaged in any way. So should we write that into law? The Bible says a lot of things and it strikes me that people like you just pick and choose the bits you want to be fanatical about.

You'll never be able to convince anyone that the Bible actually says that. I happen to agree with you, though, that gay marriage is wrong. That's my moral stand. I don't hate gays, in fact I have gay friends. But I just think an intimate relationship between two members of the same sex is immoral and not what God intended. Unfortunately morals don't exist in society anymore. porn? who cares...fornication? no biggie...big massive orgies? sounds like fun...yeah pretty much anything goes just because it's not hurting anyone right? Yeah, right....anyone who doesn't recognize that our country is going to hell in a handbasket is blind. Eat, drink, and be merry everyone, who the hell cares right?

The bible does not say anything about same sex marriage. It says some things about a man lying with a man, but that was about the practice of wealthy men keeping young teenage boy slaves for sexual pleasure, there are others, but marriage isn't mentioned.
