Are you talking about dental x-rays? You mount them as if you are looking at the patient's smile. When you are referring to any of the patient's teeth, you say right or left based on their right or left. Like tooth number 1 is the patient's upper right 3rd molar. So the upper right molar periapical film will go in the upper left corner of the mount, that is your left, patient's right. I know that sounds confusing, but I hope it made sense. And the dots on the film point up.
