A friend of mine has an older family member that has recently been diagnosed with cancer. They were told that he needed to have chemo. The problem is that they have no insurance and do not qualify for Medicaid. We are in PA. Does anyone know of anything that they can do to help get this person the treatment they need?
Any and all responses are gratefully accepted!!
Thank you in advance.

I greatly appreciate all of the information that everyone has so generously provided.
I don't want to sound rude but, if you do not have any positive suggestions, please do not comment. I am not sure of my friend's financial situation, all I know is that they can not afford to pay for the outrageous costs of hospitals or medications. They are by no means rich or trying to "buck the system".
Thanks again to everyone for all of your advice. Keep them coming :^)

You can usually work with the hospitals to get treatments done by working out a payment plan if there's no insurance...also some doc's/hospitals will write off the costs of treatments. The family should be talking to the doctor/hospital or his office manager to see about programs that maybe in the area or how they can work on all this...there are ways out there for the treatments to be done...you just have to do a little leg work to find it....

I'm not sure this will work, but it's worth a shot.
Have your friend talk to his doctor. Maybe they can contact the drug manufacturer and get him on a program where some (if not all) of the cost will be covered. I know people have done this for other medications, but I'm not sure for chemo. It definitely can't hurt to try.
Good luck - blessings and good wishes.

Contact Bruno's Cancer Center in Birmingham, Alabama they can give you the information that you need for the area that you live in. They helped a close friend of mine get the treatments he needed at no cost.

Not getting chemo is not the worst thing, to see what I mean you need to read the info at the site below. I am not trying to be funny, my dad died of cancer and I wish I had this info when he was sick.

Does he/she qualify for Medicare (which would cover all inpatient treatments...)? If not, Am. Cancer Society may be a good source...

I'm sorry if I sound hard hearted but if you don't qualify for Medicaid it's usually because you have assets that could be used to pay for the treatments. Just because you don't want to sell the house or cash in the CD's/stocks is no reason to not want to pay for your own medical care. It becomes your choice--get the treatment and pay for it yourself or die.

Appeal to member of your church and EVERY surrounding church - one of the members may be a doctor.
Pray.
Use alternate means of treatment - Chinese herbal medicine maybe.
Good luck.
