Not a mom but my mom lets me watch for like an hour and then makes me take like a 45 minute break outside or something. Hope that helps!

I think it depends on how old your kids are. Mine are 6, 5 and 3 and I let them watch about 2 to 3 hours per day. That's all they really want to watch anyway, when they first get up in the morning (on the weekends). They don't watch any TV after school during the week and we don't even turn the TV on until 7:00 p.m. (they go to bed at 8:00) and then it is usually on regular programming.
When they get older I plan to allow them to watch a few hours in the morning on the weekends and then again at nighttime before bed (when they are old enough to care about regular programming). I used to watch TV quite a bit growing up and I really enjoy it. As long as they also have other interests and are able to read, use the computer, play outside or do other things I don't see anything wrong with it at a younger age. Just don't use the TV as your babysitter!

None of my kids (12, 14, 17 and 23) have had limits on TV viewing. The eldest just graduated cumlaude from a prestigious university, the 17-year-old was valedictorian of her school.
The point is that television does not "rot the brain." Failure to think rots the brain. A thinking person can only stand so much television at one time.
When they are NOT watching TV, the thing is switched off, and we talk. Both my wife and I encourage reading. And we make sure that the kids have access to enjoyable activities (my son, the youngest, likes to skateboard, bicycle and play basketball, so guess what he gets for toys?).
The trick is to remember that the TV has an off switch. But it's not so much "how much TV" and "what shows" that makes a difference.
Hope that helps.

Depends on the day. Most days they watch 0 to 1 1/2 hours. During the summer, there are many days spent without any TV. Saturday mornings are usually the exception. Our whole family watches Saturday morning cartoons while we have pancakes. (Kind of a family tradition) They usually watch up to 2 hours unless we have plans.

I let my kids watch a couple hours of tv a day. We usually put our jammies on and curl up on the couch for a show each night and we also talk about our day. A little tv will not kill the child.

We don't have a set amount of time. The rules are homework first and no TV at meal times or after bedtime. The biggest exception is Saturday morning cartoons. They can watch and be lazy until noon or so, but then I kick 'em outside.

in all honesty i dont limit my childrens telivision time but both my children dont go to school, it doesnt mean that i neglect them because i do take time out every day to help prepare my oldest daughter for school. tv has had no effect on my child as far as intelligence because she knows already more then enough for head start, the doctors say infact she is advanced for her age, some programs actually help a child to learn and encourages their independence... and helps advance their learning it all just depends on what your children watch and thats what we as parents should be concerned about. Ofcourse once my daughter starts in school I will be limiting her tv time because she will have homework and school will always come first... but i see nothing wrong with her watching tv, even though my child watches a lot of tv it doesnt affect her actual playing and excercise as most of the time she would rather play outside and do other things anyway. I give her the choice because i dont want her to feel as though im trying to control all aspects of her life... i think its wonderful to encourage a childs independence, and my daughter actually prefers to play flashcards and play with her leappad and for me to read to her then to actually watch tv... anyway all im trying to say is tv has a positive influence in some situations, and im NOT saying that parents who limit their childs tv time are wrong... Im just saying that in my experience it hasnt really hurt my childs learning abilities when i dont limit her tv time..
Great question!!!!!!

the less the better, try to get them interested in out doors activities of course supervised or swiming lessons, karate lessons,or summer camps,tv should be restraint because of all the trash we have running through now, even the cartoons the kids watch; you have to look at them before you let them see it, i think two hours a day is good enough and not at the same time brake them appart, and of course a little more on rainy days.good luck.

i misscarried last year but had i had my daughter i would do no more than 1 hr day (2-30 min shows educational) until they get to be 10-12age then have them do chores or whatever then they get tokens or buttons each one represents 30 min of tv or video game time limit like 4 a day.
