"The gay marriage subject doesn't seem to register on the intensity scale. The latest Fox News poll, released Friday, listed the 20 issues that Americans are most concerned about, and gay marriage didn't even make the list.

That reality is a big reason why the Senate vote next month on the anti-gay marriage act is just a gesture to the religious right. Sixty-seven senators are needed to pass a constitutional amendment, and there's no way GOP leaders can goad even all their own senators to vote for it."

Personally, I think the Gay marriage issue is a weapon of mass distraction that was designed to draw the general public away from important issues and/or the wrong doing of government officials.

I am not at all clear how a gay marriage would jeopardize the sanctity of my marriage and truthfully if you want to talk about people that jeopardize the sanctity of marriage then we should look at Hollywood. Hollywood stars treat marriage like dating rather than a lifelong commitment.

Realistically, I could care less what others do in the privacy of their own home. If this really were a free country, then why is it such a problem for people of a different sexual orientation to express their love for one another.

Well, the religious people I know are completely up in arms.
They're rallying, making bumper-stickers...the whole gamut.
I asked these people one-on-one why they are so against something that has no affect on them, personally.
The best answer I got was...of course....a 'religious' answer.
God made Adam and Eve...not Adam and Steve...

I just don't get it. I think these people are just plain afraid of everything. If they'd just get off their butts and stop waiting to die so they could get to heaven, maybe they could work on actually helping THIS world.

The definition of marriage should be "A Union Between Two People".

It's so simple.

Only a handful of people are really concerned about gay marriage- Religious or not. We just tend to think so because we see the extremists on TV fighting over it.

Of course not. They're pandering to pinheads, and hoping their base has no memory (they trotted this crap out before and got nowhere with it, same as the flag burning amendment) and no sense, just responds to red flags like senseless bulls.
Sadly, that base will no doubt prove them right.

A lot of the nonreligious people I know who hate gays hate them because they think gay sex is gross. (Unless they're talking about lesbians, and then suddenly it's hot. I don't get it. O.o) So it's not that they're not against gay marriage, they're just against gays in general. And if you weren't gay, you wouldn't have to worry about gay marriage, right?

(Note that I'm nonreligious and straight, and have no problems with gays. I think it's unfair that they can't get married and we can.)

I guess it's easier to focus on something as trivial as gay marriage than to tackle subjects like--what is this war really about, why is most of my paycheck spent on gas, etc.

A gay marriage is not my experience. Hell, I'd settle for a slightly pleasant one personally. Maybe you americans expect too much?

No way.

I think the only people who really care are gay and lesbian folks (many of whom actually stand to lose something) and then the religious right, who are just attempting to rally their base (and it is just that: base.)

I think it's a case of much-ado-about-nothing...if you're not gay, why does it even concern you? Is the institution of gay marriage threatening other marriages...I don't think so...

no, i don't obsess about it. but my feeling is that the constitution says that "all men being created equal". means that everyone has the same rights.

So gays should be allowed to marry. After all, they should be as miserable as the rest of us !!!!

LOL!!!
