Is it because they swim in their own toilet? Because that would be a good reason, I think. Let's see how many answers I get spewing scripture. Yes God loves me, yadda yadda, I get it.

The thing is, though, that the book of Leviticus condemns a lot of things as "abominations." The 11th chapter is overflowing with abominations. For example, from verses 10-12:
And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you: They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination. Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you.

I only provided the original quote because I had people actually think I was making this stuff up. I'd prefer not to, actually. I would hope the Christians answering me or defending themselves would actually already know that quote.

He knew Satan would one day bring Red Lobster to the world and he wanted to discourage this evil franchise from the beginning.

You certainly are good at spewing scripture out, but you don't want it spewed back at you! That makes no sense!
In biblical times, they did not have the means to keep a lot of meats and other perishables at a safe temperature. Shellfish needs to be kept fresh until cooked, or risk the danger of deadly bacteria. Wouldn't that in itself be a reason to obey God, that He would keep you healthy and disease free?

There is some passage in the Bible somewhere that refers to "vermin of the sea", and it has been assumed that this refers to shellfish. There are also those who don't eat pork because pigs have "cloven hooves" and there is a passage in the Bible about that, as well.
God doesn't want you to starve to death. If all that's available is shellfish and if you don't eat you'll starve, I'm thinkin' the passage about not killing yourself probably trumps the passage about "vermin of the sea".
Go ahead, have a piece of shrimp wrapped in bacon. I've eaten them before, they're yummy, and I haven't burned in hell yet!!

cooking shellfish incorrectly can make you sick. and there is the idea that the bible was written by some smart people at the time and is basically a "guide" book on how to live, with a god thrown in to convince people to follow it. so it was probably simpler to just say, don't eat it, than to provide "god's yummy shellfish recipe"

everything that God create is Good, and we can try it there is if we do it, not because we want to contradict some else ideas, but because we believed in everything he did is good, and he did it for us. I have never had problems with that. By the way, religion isn't just yadda, yadda, get it? I get it too.

They're scavengers. They eat unclean things therefore making the eater of them the same. Also, God knew they spoiled easily, the Israelites had no way to keep them cold. He was and is protecting us from food poisoning.

Who told you God told you not to eat it? LöL. That must be a misunderstanding. If you want to eat shellfish, go eat as long as its proven that its safe to eat it. I have eaten shellfish and I didn't got condemned for that...

ive always found it strange how the same punishment for eating shellfish is also given to commiting homosexual acts.
i don't know why either of them are sin in leviticus, but they are.

They're scavengers, so I'd assume that's why; they're deemed "dirty" and "unclean". But ef that, I love me some shellfish.
