why to be scared?
no one will force you to follow any thing you are not interested in.
gays have rights to marry each other in some places and that doesn't affect others in any way.
let the religious fundamentalists and atheists have there own rights and grounds. none will bother you...

It depends on what part of the country you are from... In the South they are a little more scary than elsewhere I think (except maybe Utah) because they are so crazy and so ubiquitous. When you have judges who insist on defying the federal ban on the Ten Commandments being displayed in the courthouse and things of this nature it can be worrisome. I fear a day when the Christians come and knock on your door at 7:00 AM and you can't just tell them to get lost or else they haul you to jail for not attending church like a good little Christian. Can you imagine what a Christian concentration camp would be like?

Though they are loosing ground, I still think that they are more powerful than they should be. As a person who grew up in the American south and experienced the book bans, the prayer in schools, etc, I know how scary it can be. So, yes, I am really scared of the religious right.

Fortunately there are as many flavors of religious fundamentalists as there are religions. My fear is of a "Christian" theocracy being imposed in the United States. I'm not anti-Christian, but I find too much intolerance in the formalized religions. Anybody with a Bible and some time on his hands can become a religious zealot, and when they get political power by uniting on a single issue (be it abortion or gay marriage) we are in danger of losing our fundamental freedoms.

There's definately the beginnings of a breaking apart of Christianity. One the one side there will be the fundamentalist, extreme crazies and on the other side the normal, level-headed believers who actually act like Christians.

I think that "loosing ground" part is what makes the most extreme of them the most dangerous.

My answer is No! But I do have a fear of the liberal left that seems to want to destroy all the values that made this country great.

I'm scared of any far right or far left party. They have one sided minds and don't care what others think. They are not open for negotiation by any means.
