My budget is $150 - $180. I dont want a complicated model - just a simple yet long lasting camera to send photos viz email. I would go for a bigger memory capacity.I'm really new to buying cameras so please help considering me an absolute beginner. What is meant by Megapixel?LCD?What does it say about a camera? Please mention any warranties, if provided. Also, if you could mention whether it's available @ Walmart.
Thanx

Try an HP R717. I just bought one for my daughter, and she loves it.

Megapixels refers to how much memory is available to store a single image, and also relates to the sensitivity of the CCD (charge coupled device) that actually gets the light via the lens that creates the image. The higher the megapixel value, the bigger a picture you can print, with more definition and detail. The HP R717, at 6.2 megapixels, can produce a clear print up to 20x30 inches.

The LCD is the display panel on the back of the camera that can act as a viewfinder, as well as for displaying pictures/video you take and menus for controlling the camera. The bigger it is, the easier it is to see and read. It also needs to be bright and easy to see in sunlight.

Another very important issue is the quality of the lens and zooming. The R717 has a good lens, and a 3x optical zoom/8x digital zoom. This means that the lens itself is used to maginify distant images, not the electronics. Digital zoom does not give as good an image.

A good place to order the camera from online is beachcamera.com. They have some of the best prices I have seen.

For the HP R717, you actually order the R707, and they upgrade it to the R717. The catalog# is HPPSR707, and the cost is $172. The warranty from HP is for one year. The camera comes with the battery, AC adapter, USB cable, software and manuals. I highly recommend a camera case.

The picture is made up of millions of dots. each dot is called a pixel. The more the number of pixels, the better the picture quality. Megapixel is a unit to measure the no. of dots. The more the no. of megapixel, the better the picture quality.

In digital Cameras, memory capacity is usually not inbuilt, but is in the form of a memory card. It is available for many memory sizes, so u can always upgrade. A 128 MB card can hold upto 60-70 high quality picures. But u can easily reduce image quality and take a lot more pictures, which is fine if u are using it personally.

LCD- Liquid Crystal Display. Every digital camera comes with an inbuilt LCD screen, u can see wat u r clicking. It makes it very easy to take pictures. A 2-inch(diagonal) LCD screen is good enough.

A sony cybershot is a god buy for beginners.

I cant help u with where to buy.

I hope this was enough.

My sister has a 3 megapixel Hewlett Packard camera, and is still using it after about 4 years. The warranty is long gone, and it's obsolete by current standards, but it's a reliable workhorse for posting pictures of her artwork to sell on a WWW site. You should be able to get a good Hewlett Packard in your price range.

I've been using a low end Kodak for several years without problems. The 1 year warranty wasn't needed.

Both Kodak and Hewlett Packard sell cameras at Wal Mart.

If most of your photos will be mostly emailed, and not many printed by you or the recipient of the email, you don't need a model with a lot of megapixels - four megapixels will be adequate. A computer screen can't handle much more than a half megapixel of resolution anyway. You can cut down the resolution of the pictures by setting the camera to a lower setting, or it can be trimmed by software.

Megapixel: One of several ways of measuring the picture quality of a digital camera. More is better. If you're just looking at them on the computer using email, don't worry about getting a big number.

LCD: This is the little screen on the camera that lets you see what you're taking a picture of. Unless you have vision trouble, I wouldn't recommend worrying about this either.

I'd recommend just going to the store and playing with the store display models. Buy whichever one you think is easiest to use.
