My wife and I have been researching dog breeds for a few weeks now and have seemed to decide on getting a Boston Terrier. This question is for those of you who currently own one or really know the breed. Do you think the breed will match us?We both work full time. She would come home on her lunch break and I work from home on Fridays so the puppy wouldn't be alone too often. We live in a large one bedroom apartment which seems to be enought space. We also have a large enclosed patio and are considering installing a doggie door. Walking and excercising shouldn't be a problem. I'm just being cautious. Do they bark alot?

I am not sure who the person is that says Bostons need to be supervised at all times or where they are comming from...restricted when alone but not supervised so much.

I have a Boston...they do not bark a lot as a rule. The Bostons I have known only bark when they get worked up and want to play and you will not. A simple "time-out" in their crate will help with that. Better yet to break the habit - ignore ignore ignore the hyper barker because once they see it gets your attention they will do it again. On the flip side once they see it does not get your attention they will go off quietly to do somethign else. If you need a percentage my Boston barks less then 25% of the time maybe way less then that. I wondered why he was little if he could bark! :-)

As far as fitting your life style....your situation sounds better then mine...if your wife is home everyday at lunch you'll be fine. Just make sure to not let your Boston run free while you are out. Mine hates the crate when i leave and has anxiety poos in the crate so I baby gate him in a hallway with pee pads and he does fine. My friend keeps his BT baby gated in a doggie proofed kitchen while at work.

Here is a board that is all BT owners and they are nice. They helped me a lot with my puppy who was sick the first 6 months of his life. They also have an nice search function to look at past questions...basically any question you could ever possibly have (even the ones that scare you out of left field) they will answer it for you. http://www.woofboard.com

Overall Bostons are the breed that will steal your heart. Their personality is bigger then you could ever imagine. I love animals and have had lots but my Boston breaks my heart (with love) every day - he is the best companion I have ever had. Once you have one you might even consider two…sounds crazy but it is a common thought. I am looking into rescuing my next little guy.

GOOD LUCK :-)

to some quantity, convinced. My husband works the Chicago Marathon each and every twelve months, and he commented very last evening that if he'd been doing the same pastime in Boston, he ought to were proper interior the component to the explosions. for sure this presented domicile the actuality of the attack in a way no longer something else ought to have, and it truly is made me frightened about the prospect of a copycat attack in October, at the same time as the Chicago Marathon will be run. except for, I once noted as Boston domicile and comprehend the section the position the explosions got here about fairly properly. I lived close by and used to bypass out to cheer on the Marathon runners each and every Patriots' Day. That, too, made the shape more suitable authentic to me. even with the undeniable fact that, I knew someone who died on 9/11, and as undesirable as this tragedy is, it pales in evaluation, even with the actuality that no longer, I understand, for the loved ones of the useless and seriously wounded. to boot, my instincts are telling me that this became no longer an attack by ability of overseas terrorists yet particularly the artwork of a homegrown nutcase. That one way or the different places a a variety of of complexion on the problem, even with the actuality that for sure i ought to correctly be totally incorrect.

I really couldn't say if it would fit your lifestyle. But i'm guessing your wife is into small dogs. Or low maintenance. So I say yeah that or a pomeranian.

They are not known to be yappy, and it sounds like the perfect choice for you. One word of caution. They fart alot!
Don't ever feed anything with corn or soy. (soy is beans!) and corn doesn't digest fully and contributes to excess gas.
