Like anywhere else in the world you have to pay top dollar for red carpet treatment! The English pay tax too but they don't think it's to protect Americans!

No, it doesn't. What little might have gone to paying off debts from WWII, you had nothing to do with, and they didn't ask for your protection. Lucky for us they know how to distinguish between a people and its government. They are exposed to American culture on radio and telly every day, Millions of Americans visit England every year, you are nothing special to them.
The English, like all people, are your equals and better educated, generally.
I was treated extremely well in England, but its because I was friendly and respectful.
