I nursed both my children during church services, never leaving my seat. No one ever noticed and I got plenty of comments on how I had such quiet children.

It is not a sin.

There are pumps which allow a woman to pump breast milk into a bottle. At which point the woman could feed the breast milk to the baby without disrupting chruch...

She could use a nursing bra and drape a blanket over her and the child while feeding...

She could excuse herself and go to the restroom/lounge to breastfeed....

In America we have a stigma about nudity. I'm not sure where you came off thinking that it was a sin...(the media?) but I assure you that nurishing your child is in no way ,shape or form a sin. Infact the love expressed by a mother during the act of breastfeeding enhances the childs feeling of security.

Medical research has proven that children handled with love are more likely to overcome obstacles. This is why you will find care gives in the neonatal ward of hospitals.

Some congragations my find this act offensive, some may not. Depending on your church she may want to excuse herself.

I find breast feeding to be one of the most loving acts...it forms a bond between the mother and child.

I respect women that breastfeed, as should you. Isn't it easier, less embarassing, and certainly Less PAINFUL to use formula? Breast milk is the best for the baby (and your god made it so that women breast feed, so how can this be a sin?)

Never let a baby go hungry. Their little bodies need more food than ours. Why would you deprive a helpless baby of food? Embarrassment? That's a sorry reason...it takes a good mother to stand up to criticism and do whats right for her baby.

Just being able to breast feed is a miracle from God. Therefore, to me, it is not considered a sin. I say breast feeding is fine in church, although mama should sit in the back and do this discretely so that it doesn't offend anyone. If it were me, I would feed either before or after church. The baby will be just fine for the duration of church services. Hope I helped, God bless you and have a great day!

I think breastfeeding is a good thing, and should be encouraged, although, some mothers could do with lessons in discretion. And for that answerer above, about feeding the baby in the bathroom: WTF? Does she not have any idea how disgusting that is? There are ways to keep it covered and discreet, and everybody is happy. The baby gets to eat (and not in a manky old bathroom), the public does not get an eyeful, and the mother doesn't feel like some sort of pariah for trying to do the right thing for her baby. That's how I feel about it. It's a sin to make the baby go hungry or eat in a bathroom.

You breastfeed your baby anywhere and if some jerk tells you not to in church then they are not Christian . I mean really , that is what a woman's breasts are for. The only place I would say not to is while driving or in a dirty bathroom. I fed my babies anywhere and threw a blanket over my shoulder. People don't want to see a woman nurse a child but will watch porn. How moronic! Id say farting in church is a sin and that is why they call the benches church pews!

No its not a sin, breast feeding in the church is fine, just do it in the bathroom, and if you cant go to the restroom take the baby outside and do it. I'm sure God won't mind, but its society that will. Just as long as they cover it up. I know its natural and beautiful thing, but not every body thinks that way, not ever body want to see your boobs hanging out.

You know, that's an interesting question. I don't think it's a sin but I really don't see it as appropriate- eating in church isn't appropriate, and urinating isn't either. Just because it's natural doesn't mean that you should have a right to do it everywhere.

I don't see how anyone could fault you for taking the baby out of the room (to the bathroom, for example) to breastfeed him or her during the service, though, as screaming babies are just a little bit distracting.

Why would that be a sin, why are so many people embarrassed by breast feeding, that is a sociological barrier that we as a society deem as doing something indecent. It is a child and its mother feeding that baby. When people have problems with it, It is there own insecurities and faith in society, not faith in God, it has nothing to do with God except for the miracle of life and the ability God gave a mother to feed that child.

I don't know what the big deal is. Most women can breastfeed a child so that nobody is even aware of it. Also, many churches have rooms where mothers can take crying or hungry children to feed them and calm them.

Not a sin at all, I would cover somehow not to expose the breast too openly. Or go to the restroom.

My mom did it all the time. Only the faint-of-heart and the really feeble-minded seem to have a problem with this. I only had trouble with it because the faint-of-heart and the feeble-minded had trouble with it :D

My advice is do what you have to do. If you must do it while sitting amongst everyone, it would be PRUDENT to bring a "nursing blanket" or something to cover up.
