I don't think it's a good joke, as you say it's a rude question, and it is a little on the rude side, so you kind of told the truth about the question being rude.

During class, a teacher trying to teach good manners asks the students, one by one, "Johnny, if you were on a date having dinner with a nice young lady, how would you tell her that you have to go to the bathroom?" she asked.
lil johnny : "I would say: Darling, may I please be excused for a moment, I have to shake hands with a very dear friend of mine whom I hope you'll get to meet after dinner."

u have to use u'r brain to understand this joke. well, this is a good joke. the reason being it's like as if u'r trying to pull the other person's leg. in hindi, we say it as "sabke saamne dhoti kholna (to expose u before every1) by calling u dirty minded"
