Apparently (all) our leaders lack the ability to find peaceful solutions, each for his own reasons. It is a shame when violence occurs and it would be nice to use alternatives to killing and war.

Bin Laden has already won. His stated reasons for attacking the US were all about getting the US to move our troops out of his homeland of Saudi Arabia. Guess what? We no longer have a military presence there. Bin Ladens intention was to embroil the US in a conflict that would drain our resources and force us into bankruptcy, a tactic he saw used successfully against the USSR when he was fighting in Afganistan. Look where we are and how the National Deficit is skyrocketing. We can't win because it's already over as far as Bin Laden is concerned.

First, I disagree that he war on terrorism cannot be won.

But lets take your approach for a second and see where we wind up.

If we stopped fighting because the war could not be won what could we expect. The stated goal of the terrorists is to bring about the second caliphate. So the only way to stop attacks against us (if we stopped fighting) would be for all of us to either become Muslim and live under Sharia Law, or to allow ourselves to become enslaved to the Muslim overlords.

Given the option, I choose to fight (beards are scratchy)

for some odd reason we (the US) seems to like to declare war on things, like the war on drugs, which can't be won by conventional means. and sadly using guns and bombs and such seems to be main way we (most people in the world) know how to try to solve a problem...so instead of stepping back and reexamining what works and what doesn't we just make another missile or tank...besides the explosions are better than using say compassion, cooperation, and compromise.

Who says that we are not winning?
Yes, we have suffered a lot of lost, very precious, lives, but we in turn have not been attacked since this all began. Yeah, you know the date and we have lost thousands, but Al-Qaeda has lost tens of thousands of lives and the failure to operate freely in at least two major supporting countries. Don't believe everything that you hear or see on T.V.

* Protect our own country.
* Try to reduce the threat of terrorism around the world
* Try to stabilize war-torn, dictatorially ravaged countries.

Is that supposed to make logical sense? How about this, "Since you're going to die eventually, why do you keep on living?"

C'mon, get the f--k outta here with this. Go back to the swingset-- let the grown ups talk.
