Let's see.

My dad was in the Marines. My uncles were in the Air Force and Army. My brother is career Army and I was in the Air Force.

Yes, I'd say that if I had a child, I would have no problem with them joining the military. Because they wouldn't be a bed-wetting liberal who didn't understand that the primary job of the military is to break things and kill people. And they'd be well read and well versed on the history of the world.

LET my child go into the military? It's not the parents' decision. The role of the parents is to accept that their "child" is an adult and has their own life to lead. Cut those apron strings honey.

we are in in fact enocuraging my DHs son to enter military service instead of going to college, because frankly, he doesn't have the grades or the maturity to make college worthwhile. The military will instill discipline , drive and maturity in him.

Besides, once they graduate High School they are adults. Only a truly selfish and controlling individual would 'let' or 'not let' another adult to make their own choices.

it's not a matter of "letting them". They are of age and I would be proud if my child made that choice. Just talk, and listen and HELP guide them to make an informed desision.

Yeah, I would. It's their choice and if they want to enlist then who am I to stop them?

Of course I would be worried, I worry about my brother in the Army every single day, but I'd still support their decision.

Once they're 18, they're adults, and you can't stop them. Once they've joined, there's really not anything you can do except support their decision and hope for the best.

Absolutely. I would be very selective as to which branch he/she goes into, but would let them decide. If they asked, I would say go for it.
