I went to the website quoted below and copied one of the speeches. I started the speech saying I'd done this and then as I read everyone understood
The speech was obviously not about the groom in question but that was what made it funny.

With several drinks, I've heard persons advise speakers to stay sober before the speech. I can tell you this is the worst advice ever given. A confident and colorful, if somewhat off-key, speaker shows much better than a nervous, yammering weakling. If you think you'll be nervous, drink up! Whisky preferably.

Always address the head table, the important guests table, then the audience. From there you can introduce your relationship with the groom. Then you can talk about shared experiences. Not everyone is a comedian, but keeping it light puts it over best.

Addressing the fellows on the table with the usual slogan"Ladies and gentlemen".Then say the good things you know about the bride and groom......you'll see that words will begin to flow from your mouth.Make sure you crack non-expensive jokes(joke dat dont hurt anyone).
