If you were going somewhere along way from home and you came to a fence. What would you do? Go back home?or go over ?under? around? the fence.Who thinks the fence is just a symbol ,a line in the sand? Maybe a sign of arrogance and ignorance about the situation?

Illegal immigrants will not stop by building a few fences. The government needs a quick solution to stop the illegal entrance, but they cannot figure out any better idea. If I am that immigrant, the fence won't be able to stop me, not even the great wall of China.

The fence will make crossing harder in those areas, and slow illegals down so they can be caught. The fences will also have sensors and cameras to signal if someone is trying to disturb them. If the illegals have to tunnel, we have won, because that would be such a reduced bottleneck of illegal immigration it would be manageable. In areas where there are not towns and it is open, illegals can be caught based off of sensors and cameras because they can't 'disappear' as quickly as they can in a town.

The people who do this sort of work have put a lot of thought into it. However, it needs to be combined with the employer databases they are creating which will contain all of the fingerprints of legal immigrants so the employer can check if the person in front of him is qualified to work. That Will give less reason for illegals to come.

Because we need both proven border security and an up and running employer database to address illegal immigration with any effectiveness, I think any increase in legal immigration rates should wait until both of those elements are in place. Otherwise it will only be on top of continuing illegal immigration. Only when we know how effective the measures are will we know how much, if any, additional unskilled immigration we want to support above the level of legal immigration we already have.

Fences work surprising well. To prevent digging, bury it several feet under the ground or electrify it. To prevent climbing, try razor wire or electrify it. Just in case, have some dogs waiting on the other side.

It's literally a line in the sand. Don't cross because it's a crime. It's a sign of arrogance and disrespect to illegally enter a nation.

well i must say u do not realize the extent to the fense that needs to be built between america and mexico. watch the movie the wall that america paid for. israel has a wall with a large road then a dip. an electric fense with cencors and barbed wire on the top. accross from it there is another ditch and then a long road. every couple of miles there are out posts of military. if america does this then that is it for the mexicans no more crossing. a mere fense is rediculous to think of putting up. with censors the military can tell when some one is going to come under it over it or what ever. if there are tunnels trying to be built underneith these censors will pick it up and kill who ever is underneath it. this is the proper way to build a fense to keep illegals out of it.

how about we have no fences and become like europe that smashed the borders. and reunited with everyone in europe and elswhere. what marcia if your country was a friend of facist bush wouldent you leave the corrupt country of mexico. its just the same thing in iraq they build a huge berlin wall around the goverment buildings and tourist hotels in iraq just to say this the new iraq. when america builds a huge wall on mexico border they will call it new world order. bush forces democracy on countries like bombing people and killing them if you call that democracy i would be surprise. if united states wants to improve situation then they should start fundraisers to help mexicans live a normal life in mexico.

You are right. Just a wall will not do. A huge wall with a moat. Take some of the crocs from Florida and put them there. Run electric through it. Maybe that will work.

Your right. That is why it needs to be much more secure than just a fence.... I think in it's current incarnation, it is a symbol that America is tired of illegal immigration.

This is just a band aid. A temporary fix to shut people up. It's not working. People are really angry. And it is going to get alot worse.
