No there will be terrorism for my lifetime. We are breeding new terrorist in the faces of the children who are losing their family by us right now. They will grow up angry and bitter they will want to get back at us. What would you want to do if your parents were killed by "friendly fighting"? Would you want to get back at the people who took them away or would you want to hug the person who killed them and say "thank you for bringing democracy to Iraq"?

Its not really a war.... Not with two opposing countries or peoples. Instead it is a conflict of ideology.
Our system is striving for equality among our people and between men and women. The other has an inferiority complex and is afraid of what will happen if they don't control and suppress their women.
On Public Radio, 06/05/06 they reported that violence against women is up 25% in the Great Democracy of India.
I believe radical right in the USA, the ones now obsessed with amending the Constitution of the United States to say the Marriage is only between a man and a women, are also afraid of losing their power. Afraid of change. Its ridiculous. And it will likely not change until all the old white male republicans die from old age.

The "war on terrorism" isn't a war -- it's just a phrase, like the "war on crime," which isn't going to over anytime soon, either. A real war has an identifiable opponent that you hope to coerce. "Terrorism" isn't that.
We've had political and religious terrorism for a few centuries now, and they're not going to go away. We can try to prevent it, try to root out terrorists, and so on, but we aren't going to "win a war." All we can do is limit the damage and work on eliminating the terrorists that we know about.

The war against terrorism? For as long as there is the ability to terrorize, there will be terrorism. We can't expect to rule out that possibility. War is ridiculous anyway. No point to it. It never ends, and somewhere down the line someone made up rules? How sick is that? If you can't get along, don't play together.Simple. We can't go around blowing up everyone who is a potential threat, are we not a threat as well? War will exist as long as men continue to govern the world.Sorry, but true.

Well, it's safe to say the US won't win a durn thing with President Kookoobananas in the White House. That guy can't plan for weather, can't pronounce nukular, can't get his singular-plural agreement right, can't balance the budget, and he definitely can't win the war against terrorism--he just distracts us by declaring sequential wars against others.
But in any case, how can one win a war against "terrorism"? Terrorism is an abstract concept. One can only win (or lose) wars against concrete adversaries. (Hitler was a concrete adversary, and so in fact was Saddam Hussein, but "terrorism" is like "poverty" or "drugs"--you can't win those wars, nor are you trying to, because these are rhetorical stances, not military strategic plans.)
The Bush Administration needs Osama bin-Laden right where he is--they never could have won re-election in '04 without him being out there. Please expect that on the eve of the November Congressional elections, we will hear a "suddenly discovered" or "just released" video or audio recording of bin Laden. Guaranteed! You heard it here first.

I don't think so because they've gotten huge. Al Queda is not the only group. I worked at a place before 9/11 and the entire library was full of books JUST ON TERRORISM and it scared the hell out of me. It was military related and surveillance related job so that was good but the books scared me. They are evil people. How would we get to them all? How do we even know WHO they were? Weren't they in the US trying to get through to people in jail not too long ago? I thought I heard that. How many people have been brainwashed by them? I don't know how long it will take for the war to end but all I know is my son is going to the service and I hope it ends soon. He's my world.

No, it won't. Terrorism isn't something that can be fought. It is a concept. And you cannot defeat a concept through war. You can only defeat the supporters of that concept. In order to end terrorism, you need to undermine the principles supporting it.

Fighting an ideology is a very difficult thing. These extreme Islamic views that perpetuate in the Middle East need to be fought on two fronts: physical and mental.
Physical -- Hate to say it, but we (the world community) has to fight these type of people. We have to kill them to prevent them from spreading their radical ideology or harming innocent civilians either in our own country or in their own country.
Mental -- We need to convince other disgruntled Islamics that violence against civilians and terrorism in general is not the way to get things done. We need to cut off these radical Islamics from their source of recruits by convincing the more normal Islamics that what these radicals are doing is wrong.

The war on terrorism won't be won with military action. It will be won through negotiation and concessions. Look at the example of Britain and the IRA.

It's not a war in the traditional sense. There isn't a clear enemy that can be defeated. Contrary to all presidential chest-beating, terrorism is a tactic, not an entity you can defeat.
The best you can hope for is to lower its frequency and the marginalize those who engage in it.
