I've always done perms with the regular perm rods, but my friend wants me to perm her hair, but the thing is she has hair to her butt, and she has a lot of it. We were told to use the long rods( the ones that look like tubes) but i am not familiar with those. All I know is that the tighter you wrap the hair around the tube rod the more spirally it is. But she just wants a wave. If any one has dose perms with these before.....I could use a little advice!!

you can use tubes for waves. just wrap the hair more losely around it. I had it done as a child in the 80's. try googling how to get it to work right. If your friend has long hair, its going to be a lose perm either way she goes, the weight of the hair will take a lot of the spring out.

Coloring is more my expertise though.

Oh, i almost forgot, try experimenting with drying her wet hair on the intended tubes, that way you will get a feel for how lose or tight the curls need to be.

yes you could but be evry careful.while getting my hair done i saw a women next to me with long hair using the long rods. i think she sould have used the larger long ones because when she was done it was so thick and big and inthe front where your hair is naturally thinner she looked like a poodle. go to sally hansen store if there is one in your area and ask for big rods for a spiral look. if you get small rods you will give her a head full of poodle curls.

those rods are useless. use regular rods(maybe orange) and piggy back them
