I know this sounds weird, but I'm due for surgery next Monday to have it removed lapriscopically. It's been really bad for the last 3 years and was wondering if there is a chance it could burst before I got there? What are the symptoms so I'll know.

Your gall bladder is not going to explode. Think of it this way; if you have put up with an inflamed gall bladder all of this time, why would it "explode" between now and next Monday??? I've never heard of an exploding gall bladder. Just rest and relax. The surgery is easy; slightly uncomfortable and you're up and around in a couple of days. Make sure you drink a lot of fluids (no carbonated drinks please!), cut down on your salt and fatty foods. This will help you be more comfortable awaiting your surgery. Go get a manicure and pedicure so you look awesome in the recovery room! And RELAX!!!! Good luck!

Well if you start experiencing pain like heartburn that won't go away no matter what you drink for it. If you start vomiting, get a fever, you feel like your burning up then the next minute your freezing. Well these are all signs, you must take yourself to the ER as soon as possible. This happened to me and I had to be operated on right away, within the hour of going to the hospital. I was told my gallbladder was so infected, had I waited even one more hour to come in It would have burst and I'd have been in serious trouble. Good luck on your operation. I had the very same thing done, you wouldn't even know it, unless I pointed it out. Very minimal scarring.

The good news is that, the longer you have had your symptoms, the more scarring and fibrosis has occurred of the gallbladder, essentially making it tougher and stronger; and thus less likely to rupture. Not impossible, but less likely than a first-time acute infection.
