People are usually happy about it because they person being sent to jail did something to deserve to be sent there, and it is nice to see someone who hurt another person or robbed another person put away where they cannot do that.

As for the person sobbing over the scumbag, keep in mind that you can go and visit the leech in jail. The families of murder victims cannot go and visit their murdered family member, they can only look at a tombstone.

It is not unusual for people to sob when a loved one is sent to jail. No matter what they did, they are still your family or your friend and you may feel bad for them. ON the other side, people who were hurt by what that person did are happy that they are being put away.

well foodme a lot of people today are just plain mean and love nothing better than seeing someone down.
i suppose it would depend on what the person went to jail for too. if it was murder or child molestation i don't think anyone could shed a tear. on the other hand someone going to jail over an unpaid traffic fine is really sad considering that most people don't consider that really criminal.
if it's someone you love who went to jail i guess you just can't help feeling sad.

Yes it is normal. There were three teens in our area that shot a mom and pop convenience store owner and went to jail. I cried. I cried for the family of the woman. I cried for the three young boys who's lives are worth nothing anymore. I cried for socitey. It was a terrible crime, they should pay go to jail for life and they did; but I cried. Watching it unfold, a lot of people did.

On the one hand, if my husband were being put behind bars, I'd be a little upset, because I know I wouldn't see him for a while.

On the other hand I'd be shouting praises to G- if the guy being put away had raped my daughter or done some other horrible thing to cause me and my family pain and sorrow. I'd feel he/she deserved to be put in "time out"
