I am buying a 1998 Chevy and unfortunately Consumer Reports doesnt' go back that far.

Try MSN's vehicle reliability ratings.

Not only that, but it might be the exact same generation. Get the Vin number of the truck you're looking for and search what series it is. Get a general consumer report for that serieis of truck.

They use the same style truck for so long then switch the design...really for any car

If I rememebr right it got pretty high rankings, it was the the first year for the new body style. For some reason they always rank GMC over chevy, but they are the same truck.
