Consequence of relaxed education, our parents were educated very strictly in terms of manners, that is not happening with us... and will not happens with our next generation, so "manners" are getting lost in time and soon will be part of history.
Very sad but true.

That is a good question, but you have really shown how ill mannered you are by including the ...fat adults part. Has it ever occured to you that someone may have some sort of medical condition that makes them heavy? I would imagine you are young, wait until you are in your fifties and then take a look at yourself. As far as manners go, I agree that not enough parents take the time to teach their children manners anymore. It was something that was important to my parents and therefore me and therefore my children. My grandchildren are very well mannered, using please, thank you, one hand in their lap, no talking with your mouth full, etc. It is easy to let your kids do whatever, harder to stay on them all the time about their manners but well worth it in the end. Now, go apologize to overweight people and don't ever do it again. Mom

Thin is no exception. Thin people may be more ill mannered because they have a feeling that they can pass off to be having good manners at the table due to their starved look. Whether it is thin or fat, the first part of the question is good- there is no one to learn and no one to teach table manners anymore in this fast society. The second part of the question is in bad taste as fat adults are not so due to their choice. Lots of fat people are so because of various physical conditions beyond their control. It is not a virtue to be thin and a sin to be fat. Table manners have nothing to do with the weight of people!

Table manners, as well as any other manners, should always be taught in the home. Unfortunately most people now-a-days don't follow thru on this anymore. A couple of generations ago, manners and etiquette were taught within the home and it was a disgrace to the entire family, especially the parents, if their children did not act accordingly with having manners. With each passing generation, things just seem to "get lost" in the shuffle. If we all "took a page" from yester-year, I believe that manners, etiquette and morals with again be "en vogue".
Concerning "fat" (as you wrote it - and speaking of manners being a thing of the past) the correct set of words for "fat" should be heavy-set. While I certainly can't speak for anyone else, I myself being "heavy-set" am always showered, dressed neatly, and have impeccable manners. Please think before calling someone else a derogatory name. Look into the mirror and think before you say something, of how the other person will feel after you have spoken and please think of how you would feel if someone purposely set out to hurt you. If you wouldn't like something of this nature said to you, please don't say it to someone else.
Please have a lovely rest of the day.
Happiness Always....

I agree that people don't have manners anymore, but you don't have to single out "fat people". First of all the mannered terminology is overweight. Second of all You don't have any manners, or mabey you're one of those uneducated people who do not know what manners are or where they come from. It was a good question, well the first part, but next time try to be a little polite.

Because we are not promoting them enough. Through the generations the importance of good table manners is diluted. I don't think its only "fat" adults I think the majority of us have just forgotten what we were taught as young children. Back to the basics I say.

It is actually the parents' responsibility to teach good table manners to their children. If the parents have no manners, the children will have no manners. I know a woman that won't let her child eat at another's house because that child chews her food with her mouth open and has terrible table manners. It does speak of one's upbringing.

I think it is from the whole TV Dinner craze in the 1960s. People sat down in front of the TV and no longer had to stare at each other chewing with their mouths open or listen to each other smacking food in their mouths because the tube was on.
Those children are today's adults. Those adults who ate lots of TV dinners are now the lazy and fat adults.

1) Parents are lazy.
2) Schools aren't allowed to teach manners OR morals anymore.
3) People are idiots.
4) Why do you think fat people have worse manners? Or is it simply that you find them offensive and you're considering that "bad manners"?
5) It is bad manners to say things like "fat people".

Well little toad, I am overweight, yet I have excellent table manners.
The same way I don't assume that every little toad is an ugly, slimy creature begging to be squashed, you shouldn't assume that everyone fat person has bad manners.
