That depends on how old the camera is. Digital cameras are typically dropped from the manufacturers' lineups within two or three years, so getting repairs may be almost impossible after that. That amount of time available for repair is longer if it was an expensive (say, $1000 or more new) unit, but you'll wind up paying a bundle for the repair anyway.
If the camera is about two years old or older, and cost in the $100 to $250 range, get a new camera. If it's newer and cost in the $300 to $400 range, it'll be a tossup whether you could put the cost of repairs should be put into a new camera or not. If it's relatively new and more expensive than $400, getting it fixed might be cost effective - but I think the price of digital SLRs will be dropping fast in the next year or so IMHO, so you might be better off saving and putting the money towards a better camera.

A new digital camera with even better features will most likely be cheaper.

You can, but you need to weigh out the cost of repair vs a new camera

take it to your dealer, they will have to send it in for repair, or most times they make you send it in to the manufacturer for repair. alot of hastle, your better off getting a new camera, unless you paid alot for the one you have, and its worth repairing.
