Mine have been clipped previously to me buying them. It's been 7 months now and my mom doesn't want to take them to get clipped because she says it hurts them. The guy from the pet shop that we got them from says that it hurts as much as getting your fingernails clipped (he also forgot to tell us that you should have 2 or they get REALLY bored, which we found out the hard way D=). So which is it? I love my budgies and want to take care of them as best as I can!

My first budgie almost died from having pulled out his bloodfeather when I was away from home! Then the vet told us about needing to get him a friend

Should I take him to the pet shop or the vet? Would that help ensure that it's done correctly?

needing a buddy for your budgie is NOT a myth. if i wouldve gotten 2 at the same time my first one wouls NOT have gotten bored. i think a VET would know.

Having a professional bird groomer clip your birds feathers should know to first look for blood feathers before they even start to clip the birds wings. Clipping them the correct way is like just getting a haircut it does not hurt.

Budgies are so gentle whilst in comparison with their length that clipping or trimming their wings won't avert them from flying. it is proper to different small birds like cockatiels. Trimming can cut back their selection and may well be a solid situation, yet a chicken might desire to continually be waiting to flutter the two faraway from threat or to avert the wear of a fall. My birds have slightly trimmed feathers and so can nonetheless fly a constrained distance (like around the room).

clipping a blood feather does hurt, but clipping a normal feather does not. it's like a hair cut. also, the guy at the pet store probably did not "forget to tell you you should have 2 or they get REALLY bored", he probably knew that was a myth.

It is like getting a hair trim or fingernail trim, as long as it is done correctly. It also keeps them from flying out the window and getting lost. Read up on how to do it, or find someone to show you how far to trim them. Do it right, and it wont hurt them at all, it actually kepps them safer. Pet birds die quickly when they get lost outside.

Since its the first time, usually petsmart does it for you, but they are EXTREMELY violent. So just tell them to be gentle and they better be!! It doesn't hurt, but only if you don't cut too deep. That's where the blood is and there's a chance the bird can bleed. Just be careful.

No human can speak for a bird ....
However, it's no benefit to them, in the wild they don't get their wings clipped... what's the need?

Mine happily flies about while attended. http://community.webshots.com/album/206645557hlXnhK

It won't hurt as long as you don't clip them too short and don't clip all of them. You only need to clip some to prevent them from flying,

I did that to one of my budgies yesterday and I've never done it before so it bit me a few times and made me bleed.
