Bush is merely using the gay marriage issue in an effort to increase his approval ratings, because even the religious fanatics who normally support him are now becoming disillusioned.

I'm straight, but I support the right of gays and lesbians to marry. After all, there is scientific evidence that suggests that sexual orientation is not chosen. Also, there are plenty of gays and lesbians who are in long-term, committed relationships. Some may argue that gay and lesbian relationships are of short duration, but most marriages now end in divorce, anyway, so the track record of gays can't be any worse than that of straights.

Some argue that allowing gays to marry would violate the sanctity of marriage. If some married people actually believe that two members of the same sex marrying would somehow tarnish the sanctity of their own unions, perhaps they should question the value they place on their own marriages. If anything, if they actually believe that the sanctity of their own unions is determined by outside forces, then it would seem that their marriages are on shaky ground to begin with.

It's also funny how Bush and so many of the other "conservatives" out there are pushing for a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. Traditionally, conservatives support small government and most government control going to the state and local levels. But then again, I suppose we shouldn't be surprised. After all, since Bush has taken office, the federal government has expanded. We now have domestic spying, for Christ's sake! Bush isn't a conservative. He is a fascist.

I live in Canada and in Ontario we allow gay marriages. Perhaps the rest of the world would like to follow suit? Our province has not collapsed. I think some right wing thinking conservatives ought to step out of their ivory tower of judgement and recognize that in the end people are people and who the F#%$ are you to judge? and make decisions on whats right and wrong? If marriage was so damned sacred between a man and woman why is the divorce rate over 50%? Why not let people be happy we are all tax paying citizens that deserve to live as we choose as long as it doesn't harm anyone else when was the last time a gay couple getting married affected you?

The question can be argued under the equal protection clause. The Equal Protection Clause, part of the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, provides that "no state shall ... deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws". The Equal Protection Clause, along with the rest of the Fourteenth Amendment, marked a great shift in American constitutionalism. Before the enactment of the Fourteenth Amendment, the Bill of Rights protected individual rights only from invasion by the federal government. After the Fourteenth Amendment was enacted, the Constitution also protected rights from abridgement by state leaders, and governments, even including some rights that arguably were not protected from abridgement by the federal government. In the wake of the Fourteenth Amendment, the states could not, among other things, deprive people of the equal protection of the laws. What exactly such a requirement means, of course, has been the subject of great debate, and the story of the Equal Protection Clause is the gradual explication of its meaning. Since marriage and adoption are legal proceeding of the state, it can be argued that equal protection is denied to those who are of same sex in those states where the law prohibits these. Please note that I am not an attorney.

Yes. It is interesting how people want to bash others for not supporting gays right to marriage. Let's be real! Marriage, throughout history of all civilizations have ALWAYS been interpreted as a male marrying a female. The insult is not that two men want to hook up or two women, just choose another name for it. It is not marriage. It never has been and never will be marriage. Two dudes or dudettes living together having sexual relations with each other is truly their choice, their business and quite frankly, even God says it's their right (Free WIll) However, DON'T impose your twisted, perverted, sick (my opinion - respect it) views on me and call it a marriage. Civil Union is adequate and seems fitting.

It's a stupid non-issue. Who cares if two guys or two women want to get married? It will affect NOTHING substantial except the personal feelings of some people and that's their own problem. Two guys getting married won't change the way a guy feels about a woman he meets, it won't change a man and a woman's desire to get married, it won't change how much taxes they pay as a married couple. People claim it's against the law of the bible, but they forget that everybody doesn't adhere to the bible and the bible is not supposed to be used as the basis of law in this country (separation of church and state). For years people said a man and a woman of different races weren't supposed to get married, that it was against the bible. Well, guess what? It happened and the world didn't end. Let 'em get married. They have as much right to be miserable divorcees as anyone else...

Yes, they should ban gay marriages. Its just not right. I mean, if youre in love, youre in love. But they shouldnt get to be married. If they let gay marriages happen, what else is going to happen? Im not prejuduce and my brother is gay, i just dont think they should legalize it. Its not supposed to happen. Leave it to husband and wife. The way its always been. I believe they should have a ceremony for 'life' partners or something.

I believe that gay people should have the right to get married and they should have all the rights that straight people have like being able to get married any where. I was watching tv the other day and watching the secret lifes of woman and it was about a woman in the militaryand she had to keep her sexuality a secret because she wanted her children to be able to get her benifits from the military and I belive that is just wrong.

Well let's see, there is no such thing as gay marriages, so this would be impossible. Now, there is such thing as a 'civil union' which acknowledges two people of the same gender in a 'union'. And my last research said it was only available in Vermont and possibly in California. This was a few years ago, but I can't say it hasn't changed. But as far as 'gay marriages' go, there isn't such a thing.

I think that everyone is entitled to their own rights as humans, even if that means they choose to be gay. People are to closed minded when it comes to sexuality, and because it's so against the norm they say it is wrong and abnormal. If we always preach: freedom of rights, the right to choose this and that bla bla bla...what gives anyone the right to judge a person by the preference of sexual partners? People should let it rest, and allow others to be happy, we live life once man, why try and ruin other people's lives because you have an opinion?? we all have opinions..let it rest.

The practice of homosexuality is destructive to the human soul and God gave His warnings about this in the Bible. Supporting gay marriage is a sin because it means to support homosexuality.

Iniquities (sinful tendencies) pass down the generation line if they are not removed by the Blood of the Lord Jesus. Homosexuality is caused by iniquity and the Blood of Jesus cleanses the iniquities of all who accept Him as their Saviour.

After a person accepts the Lord Jesus as their Saviour, they are transformed and made a new creature in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). So the gay person would be changed and so would the alcoholic, liar, drug addict, fornicator etc. It's the power of the Blood of Christ and the Holy Spirit in the believer that brings about this transformation.

REDEMPTION BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH

Because mankind is incapable of meeting God’s standard of perfection necessary to abide in God’s presence (Romans 3:19-20,23), God sent His Son Jesus Christ to pay the total debt for the believer’s sins and mercifully credits to his account Christ’s righteousness (Romans 3:21-28,5:1-11; 2 Corinthians 5:18-21). Jesus’ gracious act of atonement was complete and covers all sin (Colossians 2:13-14; 1 John 1:9). Salvation is not based on good deeds but according to the mercy of God (Titus 3:4-5). Believers are justified by faith; it is a gift by God’s grace (Romans 4:3-8; Ephesians 2:8-9). A true, living faith will result in a desire to live a holy, loving life of good works (Ephesians 2:10; Galatians 5:6; James 2:14-26), but failure to be absolutely successful at righteous living does not negate the believer’s justified status.

If you sincerely say this prayer, your sins will be washed away, you will be redeemed to God, be saved from eternal torment and inherit the Kingdom of God:

"Dear Jesus,

I am a sinner.
I repent of my sins.
Please forgive me and save me by your shed blood;
come into my heart.
I want to receive you as my own personal Lord and Savior.

Amen"
