Well there are many harmful affects starting out with addiction, overdoses, jail.... the best defense is offense. Just don't do it. Why are you so weak as to allow your so called friends ruin your life and this applies to alcohol too.... There is nothing wrong with a little drink here and there as it is legal . But with anything else you have a lot to lose starting with your freedom to live under the sun and sky...Try exercise as a replacement for the stress you are under. The drugs in the long run will just add more stress to your life than you can even believe possible...the only way to overcome the harmful effects is to stay away from them. Sorry straight hard truth is not fun, just skip the drugs and learn to enjoy life all by itself which can be pretty cool if you let it...

These drugs waste valuable time and money. Both cocaine and heroin screw up the body's dopamine system. As people take them more and more, their body gets adapted to the drug and tolerant. Thus, they need more to get a high, and off of the drug, they crave the drug both psychologically and physically. Their bodies eventually can't function well without the drug. The side effects of a drug, after taking it and getting off it, are basically withdrawal symptoms. They are the opposite effect of the drug, in a sense. You can also overdose and die with too much of the drug. With marijuana, there's not as much risk as heroin or coke, but it's still a waste of time and its effects, even though they can't be felt after 24 hours, can still slow down reaction time and lead to accidents (according to scientific research).
You can overcome the negative side effects (which often are permanent or long-lasting) by not taking the drug.

First of all, two of these drugs(cocaine and heroine) are highly addictive. They really take a toll on your body. They can eventually damage your organs. You don't sleep or eat for days on end. When you don't have it you find yourself highly irritated and even violent.Eventually you'll find yourself spending all your money on drugs. You can even eventually lose your job because your just not showing up anymore or always calling in sick. When your money's all gone, you're out bumming money and lying (about why you need the money) from friends and family and when you can no longer get money from these sources you turn to stealing to support your habit. Once you start on cocaine or heroine you'd better have a very strong will to want to quit because that's the only way you'll ever get away from these two drugs. They are highly addictive and usually only take once or twice of shooting up or smoking it whichever your preference before your addicted.

Drugs of addiction are tricky, but most neuroscientists agree that most (if not all) effect the nucleus accumbens in the brain to generate addiction, but understanding that final common pathway does not address the differences in side effects and withdrawl seen using the different drugs you mentioned.
Most drugs have both short term (hours to days) and long term side effects.
Pot: short term: memory loss (via hippocampal reduction in function)
Long term: memory loss and slow congative function
Long term use can cause a general slowing in mental response times which may or may not be overcome with abstenance.
Cocaine: Short term: Depression, paranoia
Long term: Severe depression, weight loss, tingling of skin
Cocaine is extreemly addictive in some users, and most will binge to keep the high (which only lasts between 1 to 2 hours). Coming down off a binge can create severe depressive effects and thoughts of suicide along with other general headaches and body malaise (feel sick or hung over)
Heroine: Short term: Diarreah, nausea, skin tingling (creapy crawlies), reduced appetite
Long term: Severe withdrawal sympoms include halucinations, nausea, diarreah, severe craving, night sweats, nightmares.
Heroine is one of the most addictive drugs out there (close to meth and crack). in animal studies, it was one of the only drugs in which animals showed no remorse in returning for more drug.
Hope this helps. Paul

With the execption of marijuana (and many would argue otherwise), cocaine, it's lethal cousin, crack, ectasy and meth ALL are degeneratingly addictive with assured lethal potential if the addiction is not treated effectively. It's been said by addicts of these drugs that the very instant of first use rendered them captive for LIFE as drug addicts. Sadly, it's amazing how such drug dependencies begin to wreck one's family, marriage, friendships, job, home....and eventually, the addict's physical/mental health......and for some of the addict's fellow abusers of such drugs---death is their demise and for the living--either they get help or wind up in prison.. Marijuana, it's said, isn't an innocent lamb in the crowd of illegal drugs. It is purported that pot's seductive ingredient, THC, carries a long after effect on one's behavioral system--rendering the pot smoker aimlessly listless and disattached from his/her enviroment. It's also suggested that one average size marijuana joint carries enough tar and nicotine punch to equal ONE PACK of tobbaco cigarettes. The AMA suggests dedicated pot smokers do tend to develop lung diseases far faster than tobbacoo smokers. Medical fact or anti-pot propaganda? Well....I guess that depends on your personal view on the subject of pot. But it is the wisely strong person to avoid at any measure, the use of cocaine, crack, ectasy and meth.
