The other dog is jealous of the pups and the mother is keeping it at bay. You need to separate them longer - until the pups are older.

The mother is only protecting her pups. Even if the other one can't get to them. If she can see the other dog it is a threat to the safety of her pups. It doesn't matter what sex the other dog is, it's a threat to the puppies.

After the pups are weaned she will probably accept the other dog again. In the wild the alpha female keeps the alpha and all males away from the pups until they are weaned, then allow the males to check the pup out.

So keep them apart until the pups are weaned.

Mother dogs are very protective of thier pups. You should wait til the pups are older to re-introduce the two adults. Mom is just being protective right now. She should be less protective of them when they are about 4 to 6 weeks old. good luck. Hope this helps.

Mothers are VERY protective over their young. It doesn't matter to them if the pups are close by or not. They will keep up this protective mode for a while, normally. Give them time to readjust on their own. If they were "buddies" before I think it will be ok.

It may take some time. The non-puppied dog may feel jealous or confused. The smell of the puppied dog may have changed slightly.

they are probably just play fighting. I happen to be a future zoo- oligist, so, for example, animals get pretty territorial. And the male might just be jealous beacause the mom is giving attention to the puppies and not him. I wish u good luck!!
