If what you see in the cat's eyes is a brown color, it is most likely normal, like when you wake up occasionally with "sleep" in your eyes. You can remove that with a damp tissue or a damp end of a Q-tip (but be very careful). If it is a whitish or yellowish pus though, I would suggest you take the cat to see the vet.

If the vet tells you no medication is necessary, be sure to ask about giving the cat Lysine in their wet food. I found out from the shelter my cats came from that Lysine will help to boost their immunity systems, and my vet confirmed that it was OK. Lysine is a caplet you can find in your vitamin aisle in a grocery store or department store.

To use- pull apart the caplet and pour the powder into some wet food. Stir in with a fork.

Make sure you have the vet's consent first though. If you have other cats as well, they should have Lysine in their wet food too, to prevent them from getting the infection as well.

If you're talking about the residue that forms in the corner of their eyes (which is generally normal) a moistened tissue or careful use of a Q-tip works. If the discharge is constant or extreme or has an odd smell, take your cat to the vet, as this may be sign of eye infection.

You need a sink and a few Q-tips. Hold the cat under your arm over a bathroom counter, get one end of a Q-tip wet under the sink water, and rub it on your cat's face in a downward motion, starting from the base of the eye and ending at roughly the cat's nose. Turn the Q-tip around, get it a lttle wet under the sink, and repeat on the same eye. Take a dry Q-tip and rub it in the same direction and at the same eye that you rubbed with the wet Q-tip. Repeat for the cat's other eye.

Well, I use a q-tip damp with lukewarm water. It works pretty good. If the gunk stays on there or smells, you might want to go consult a vet. I hope my advice helped you.

You should take him yo the vet as soon as possible. Sometimes he might even be crying for you if your not around when the gunk gets there.

I pick my cat's eye goop about once a day. I can't stand looking at her with goop in her eyes.
