Most of my life I have had trouble falling asleep. My mind goes 100 mph when I lay down. After a couple of hours later, I finally fall asleep. I need help, but I don't know what to try.

*Take over-the-counter melanine tablets, or a benadryl.
*Have a snack, especially a turkey sandwich and milk. Both contain melanine.
*As much as possible, follow a regular schedule. No naps!
*Make the room dark and quiet.
*Then play the really boring alphabet game: pick a topic, like animals, plants, cars, something in all houses, whatever, and go from A to Z trying to come up with something for each letter. I do it, it works because it's so damn stupid and boring. The best list for me: terms relating to going to sleep. Example: abed, bed, cosy, drowsy, exhausted, fatigued...and so on. I'm always asleep before I finish the alphabet.

1-Practice good "sleep hygiene". Get yourself ready for sleep by relaxing a few hours before bedtime -- take a warm bath,or write in a journal or diary. 2-Make sure you have a comfortable bed in which you can get a good night's sleep. Buy a decent mattress. A mattress is worth more than you think, considering you use it every night, so don't hold back! If you're too hot or cold, add or remove blankets until comfortable. 3-Soundproof your room. Soundproofing your room will not only help you fall asleep, it will help you stay asleep. 4-Read. Reading will help the mind focus on only one thing, instead of racing about the day's activities. Read something calming rather than an exciting thriller novel. Fairy tales or nonfiction would be good choices. 5-Start the habit of using your bed only for sleeping. Do not read, play video games, etc. because then your body will be used to doing those things while in bed and make you more awake 6-Think of the impossible.Invent new things imagine yourself flying without engines just using your hands. counting do not work with all people best thing to do is that if you got a hard day try to forget all the problems and think of your dream wish you a sweat zzz...zzzz....zzzzz

Meditate to clear your mind for at least 15 minutes before you sleep. Don't watch tv or any stimulating activity 3 hours before you sleep. Make sure you have a dark quiet environment to sleep. Excercise and other stress relieving measures to ensure you aren't thinking of stressful situations.

The clearest mind can wakeup and sleep the best.

OMG same here!!! I learned to take cough medicine. It makes you drowsy. No just kidding, don't do that. If you tried counting sheep and it didn't work, it's because that stimulates your mind. You should think of a peaceful place like a meadow or waterfall.

try drinking some warm milk about an hour before you go to bed, or lavender oil on your pillow. also a regular bedtime routine is important, make sure you go to bed at the same time each night and your body will soon work it out. good luck!

Try visualizing yourself slowly turning to stone, starting with your feet, which slowly get very heavy and sink into the mattress as they become stone. Then your lower legs, then your thighs, and so on. Most people seldom get past their arms. :)
