It depends on what you do for a living. Although it is highly unlikely that your work could be that sedentary.
On the other hand, a recent study (I'm sorry, I can't remember if it was the American Medical Association or its British equivalent), confirmed that sleeping will actually burn more calories than watching television. The reasons, I believe, have to do with the fact that the body is actually hard at work replacing skin cells, processing food and toxins, rebuilding itself and, believe it or not, your hair actually grows faster while you sleep.

Sleeping burns very few calories. To reduce fat, you must eat right and exercise regularly.

You're kidding right?
How can laying still, and just turning yourself over every now and then compare to getting up walking around, or exercising and pushing yourself? If you ever hear of a study that says you burn more fat sleeping, don't believe it, because it would be wrong.

If it's an ongoing thing, try starting a workout routine, or going for a walk a couple hours before you go to bed to use up extra energy. A hot bath is also a good way to relax right before bed. You can always get over the counter sleep-aids too.

No it does not. In fact, when you sleep, you become inactive and the digestive system labous more to work on the food. No wonder we eat light meals for supper/dinner

No!
During your sleep you burn about 300 kJ per hour, if you convert it into
calories you obtain (1 calorie = 4,18 joules). So you burn about 71800
calories per hour during your sleep. If you sleep 8 hours, you'll burn
574400 calories during your whole night. [Which is 574.4 kcal, or "food"
Calories, per night.
