If the child, the child's parents, or the grandparents were born in Ireland, go for it- as long as you're prepared to have people mispronouncing and misspelling it for the rest of the kid's life. Otherwise, skip it, because it will be forever wondered by her teachers if her mom was a historical romance freak.

I'm feeling the Irish in these names. Don't know if Catriona is Irish or not, but I know the other two are. I think they're pretty names. I prefer Niamh and Ciara to Catriona though. Ciara has to be pronounced properly (Keer-ra) rather than the American way (Ce-air-a). I can't stand it when names are mangled like that!

Ciara is a beautiful name for a girl (pronounced as "sha-rah"). I know of a girl who has that name, and I think it's very feminine.
As for the names Niamh and Catriona, never heard of it before until now.
Hope my answer helps.

My 6yrs old daughter's name is Catriona. It's Gaelic form of Katharine. Riona is an Irish pet form. I love the name of Catriona ww
She goes to Catholic school, so we know a lot of girls name Niamh (nee-av) and Ciara. Lovely names.
Decision is yours...

Not sure how you pronounce Niamh. I like Ciara and Catriona if it's pronounce Ca-tree-o-na.

My other two sisters are Niamh and Ciara. I'm not too convinced about Caitríona.
