You can't.
The Average length for Most women is 28 days. Ovulation occurs 10-15 after. However, some women have short cycles (21 days). At which point you could essentially be ovulating on your period.
Some women have long cycles (42 days) and ovulate somewhere around day 20.
I suppose if you are intent on charting I will supply you with a good online resource. www.fertilityfriend.com You will need to chart for several months (at least 3-4 months) before you can form an idea of your ovulation cycle. Like I said, this is really the worst method of contraception...
Your safest bet is condoms which prevent you from both STDs and reduce risk of pregnancy.
If your significant other doesn't like the idea of condoms you could always go on birth control, which you can get at the Health Department. Birth Control is no more than $20.00 per pack without insurance, if I recall correctly.
Pills are more effective than the patch. The shot can screw up your body permanently (hormonal problems, weak bones, infertility problems - Especially IF you are going through puberty)
Those are the two best options for ya. Charting your cycle or having him pull out (b/c pre-*** contains semen) is not an effective means of preventing pregnancy.
I'd really hate for you to have an unwanted child or worse yet, an abortion.... If your man loves REALLY loves you, he'll understand and do what it takes to ensure your future together.
If you think you might have concieved while you are on your period, wait 3 weeks then buy a pregnancy test. HCG (the human growth hormone) doubles daily after conception. If you wait 3 weeks that should be enough time to turn a preggy test positive.
Be wise, this is your life. Sex is not everything. Don't screw up your future, or ruin someone else's.
Best of luck to you!

You need to first familiarize yourself with the length of your cycle. The average cycle last 28days counting the first day of your period. If you have a 28 day cycle it is estimated that the first 10 - 12 days and the last 10 - 12 days are safe. However, because this method is not 100% safe please do not rely solely on this method of contraceptive. You should speak to a health practitioner and look at pills, patch, condoms.
Abstinence is the only sure method of preventing pregnancy.

you can't. If you want to protect yourself against pregnancy, use birth control. Rythm is not very effective, as some women ovulate twice in a month (myself and my mother included). I had cramps, and was 2 days away from my period when I got pregnant. You may not be this way, but it's not a good way to find out.

There's no safe period. Abstinence is best. If you don't practice abstinence, get on the pill, patch, shot to prevent pregnancy and always use a condom to prevent STDs!

There is no such thing as a safe period. You can ovulate at any time.
The only way to prevent pregnancy is abstinence.

There is no guaranteed 'safe' period. If you wish NOT to become a parent, use a good birth control method. One nite's pleasure is not worth 18-21 years of responsibility!

It is never really a safe time but as a rule the doctors say there is not much chance just after you have finished your period-for about a week but everyone is different. Everyone ovulates at different times.
