This is simple, call the Parish that you wish to join and ask to speak to someone in Adult Formation about RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults).

They will ask you a few questions (nothing serious, but things like "have you been baptized?" and why you want to join the RCC). Contrary to popular misinformation, there is no requirement to donate money for this - it is all free and a gift of the Church.

The classes start in August or September and will go until Easter.

As for telling your family. . . that would really depend on your family, but I told mine simply, "I am taking Catechism classes and am joining the Catholic Church."

The only one that had issues was my sister, but she is a member of the Church of God and despises all that the Catholic Church stands for - without knowing anything about it.

If you have any other questions about this, let me know. I am a Catholic convert myself and am willing to share my experiences with you.

background, beliefs, family history, all these do not matter if you want to know a particular faith or faith practice. Go to the chosen parish and ask to join the adult cathecism class. This will give you the opportunity to inquire on the faith and the RC church to guide you before conversion need to be discussed.

Talk to your priest. There are many converts to Catholicism that have Protestant familya, as well as many Protestant families that have converted to Catholicism. He will be able to guide you in your path, wether that be converting or not...

Say what you wrote for your question. Nothing wrong with that at all.
