I want to take my best friend for afternoon tea as a birthday treat but she's already been to The Ritz. Anyone got any other suggestions?

The Mandarin Oriental offers a very nice afternoon tea service overlooking the park.

There's a (relatively new) place on Westbourne Grove, called Tea Palace. Nice atmosphere. Also, there's a tiny tea shop off Kenstington Church Street - I think it's Holland Street, on the left handside walking from the Kensington High Street end. The latter is cheaper and has less choice than the former. Another good place is also Sketch.

Fortnum and Mason's is lovely and had a beautiful view of the shop below you.

If you don't want to go centrally, 'The Original Maids Of Honour' (Kew- either Kew mainline station or go to Richmond and take a 65 bus towards Ealing) is one of London's oldest tea shops, serving cakes to a secret (formerly royal) recipe. It is near kew Gardens so can be combined for a day out.

Try the Sofitel St James, it is on Pall Mall near to Picadilly Circus, it has a really cute pink tea room.

Either Fortnum and Mason's - original tea importers have wonderful tea rooms on Piccadilly.

My favourite is Coffee Cake and Kink (Endell St.) but you might not like the artwork.
