In favour of this argument are the combination of the facts that the significance of 666 (commonly known as the Number of the Beast) comes from the Bible - the Book of Revelation chapter 13, verses 17-18 - and that the calendar we use in the West is also Christian (basing its numbering system on the birth of Christ)
However there are more points against the idea that the World will end today:
1) This is the twenty-first date that could be written 06-06-06 so far in this calendar (i.e. 06-06-1906, 06-06-1806 etc.), and there seems no more reason that the World should end on this one than any previous one.
2) According to translator's comments in the New English Translation Bible, some maintain that recent discoveries show that 616 might be the correct Number of the Beast, and not the commonly known 666.
3) The actual quote in Revelations doesn't mention the end of the World, just 666's link to the Beast and the Devil is more known for trying to lead people into temptation and ultimately Hell than for trying to end the World.
4) The World ending on 06-06-06 assumes the Book of Revelations in particular and Judaism/Christianity in general to be the truth and this may well not be the case as no proof has ever been established either way.
5) 06-06-2006 is already over for some places as I write (e.g. some parts of Australia).

It didn't end on and of the previous 6/6/06. Why would today be any different

Well the world did not end on 6/6/1906 or 6/6/1806, etc., etc., so chances are it will not end today. If you were counting on the world ending on this date I don't think it will happen. Sorry! ;)

No, I do not. There's too much superstition and hysteria over this- 666 is supposedly the mark of the Beast in Revelation in the Bible, but one can't go about denouncing 666 wherever they go- our local law enforcement's last four numbers are 6666- am I concerned about bad luck every time I call City Hall? No. :)
