I feel sorry for you. No offence but I think your religion has taken it a step too far. I suppose if you follow Islam as a religion then you have to abide by all the rules and from what I've heard its a strict religion. I think its unfair that you cant do normal things like watch films or wear nail varnish!? Doing these things does not make you a bad person. Yes you can have faith in God as long as you live in peace and don't hurt others. But if there is a god I'm sure he wants you to enjoy your life.

The bad things about religion is the man made rules. That goes for all religions. But without them how would they control their followers. I agree that Islam is a tough religion to follow and you have to have displine to be a follower. I think that you must look into your inner self and decide for yourself which way you want to go. There are many muslims who do listen to music, wear nail polish and even dance. The problem is not your religion but the people who are forcing these rules upon you. Being a good muslim is in your heart and not doing wrong. Maybe some people thing having fun is wrong but maybe they are wrong as long as what you do is not sinful

I wonder where you got this from cause I'm a Muslim and I am not prohibited to listen to music, watch films of dance among girlfriends. Read more and face those who tell you these false restrictions with the truth about Islam. It's teh first time for me to hear Islam bans such things.

They're just trying to protect you. Maybe talk to your parents and say that you're happy in your religion but that you feel it's restricting a lot of area's of your life, and could they maybe explain why? Some films are blasphemous or might portray behavious that isn't right for a good Muslim to partake of or watch. Maybe people think that dancing with your girlfriends in your house might make you think about dancing outside of your house or with boys. I know that Islam places a lot of emphasis on the beauty within and saving the physical beauty for your husband, and maybe wearing nailvarnish might make it seem like you're trying to show off your body.
I'm not Muslim (i'm a Mormon) but if you believe you should try to stick to the rules. Maybe try using henna to dye your nails instead of painting them, or see what fun cultural stuff you can do that doesn't affect your religious beliefs. If you're truly not happy, then now might be the time to think about maybe converting, but think about it long and hard because it's a big decision that will effect everything in your life forever. There are many other religions out there that may suit you better, but you would have to try to find the right one for you. I found home in the Mormon church (www.lds.org or www.mormon.org for more info) and it might be right for you too, but like I say, do really think about this carefully, it's a big decision.
Good luck

I've been brought up muslim, and never felt spiritual until I moved away from the limiting decrees that are a part of modern islam.
Allah/god is everywhere and in everything, including you! And I do not believe that Allah goes around punishing for minor misdemeanours. It seems that you have become trapped in some persons "perception" of what being a goo dmuslim is about, not what it really means.
Check out Wayne Dyers The Power of intention and start your own growth as a person and part of creation. Religion inhibits spirituality. You are conforming to please other people not Allah, and that is not right.
Good luck

I was once in a religion called penticostal and they had the same restrictions. I could not not wear pants, braid my hari, cut my hair, wear makeup, have a tv, listen to music other than christian, etc. The point is it was too much for me, I couldn't take it and it honestly made me think that if this is how God wants me to live he would have made me born in a time when it wasn't possible to do these things. I understand how in old testiment times women who were entertained would have been going out of their way and finding persons to entertain them that were maybe harmful to them, but that is not my day, I live now, what are we suppose to do now? I hope you find a way to come to terms with the possiblilty that that muslim is just as wrong as any other religion that sticks women in a corner and tells us to be quiet for God doesn't want to hear us. Best wishes

Well, honey, I do not want to bash your religion. What I will say is that if you feel oppressed by Islam, perhaps you should do some exploring into other religions to see if there is something out there that will be more permissive of your various interests. I am a Christian, and I really enjoy being one. The things you mentioned are allowed in my particular version of Christianity. If you are interested (no pressure), try the website below to see if the preachers I listen to are saying things you agree with. You can watch their services online for FREE.

I can't say that I have ever "looked down" on my religion. However, I have experienced a great amount of disappointment in some of my fellow worshippers. The problem that I have encountered with people who share in my religious beliefs involves their tendencies to change and/or add to the "laws" of the religion (in my case, Christianity). Like you, I've been banned from doing many things--some of which are actually discussed and/or accepted in the Holy Bible. (As an example: some Christians believe that it is inappropriate to dance in the House of the Lord. If you would reference the Holy Bible, however, it says the exact opposite--that we should dance and praise him.)
Whereas I understand that we come from totally different religious backgrounds, I do feel that you should research these "laws" yourself. (Not saying that you should challenge your religion, but at least know the origins and/or meaning behind its laws.)

Everyone will have their own interpretations of the rules. You do not have to be a conservative or fundamental follower of your religion. Part of this could be your culture rather than your religion. I have friends who are Muslims and listen to music, watch films and dance in public and aren't ashamed! The 'rules' were written many years ago before films, CD players and nail varnish! The religion needs to adapt to survive. So I say God would probably be happy to see you enjoy yourself (in Christianity he would be anyway!), its a way of showing him you are grateful and enjoying his creation!
