The D200 is a better camera than the 20D / 30D in every respect except high ISO (above 800 ISO). If money is no problem, get a Canon 1DsMk2 but for under $2000, the D200 is the best there is. The D200 is more rugged - it has a metal body and weather sealing, delivers better image quality, has better features, and better ergonomics. That's why it costs more. As for durability, the D200, 20D, and 30D are all rated for around 100,000 shutter actuations. The cheaper dSLR models are rated for 50,000.
Full disclosure: I own a D200 myself. In fact, I just got back from wearing it for 4 days straight at a festival in Berlin. With luck, my neck and back will recover by Friday ;-)

Nikon D200 all the way. I own one, love it! This camera smokes the 20D in every aspect. So far I have not found a complaint. If you want to see sample images from it just e-mail me.

Oh also just dont buy the crappy kit lens :)

Fork over the money and get you a nice 2.8 with the silent wave motor.
