There are 'religions' such as Baptist, Methodist, Catholics, Jewish, Islamic, Muslim, etc. These religions have specific practices.
There are many people who do not fully support the teachings and practices of these common religions because over the years, many of them have become platforms for various people to promote their opinions and enforce others to believe the same way.
While they do not believe in 'religion' or 'church', they do still believe in a higher power in this universe. They probably refer to themselves as being 'Spiritual' instead of 'religious'.
I however, would argue that part of the world's biggest problem is people who cast stones at things they do not understand. This is the mentality that keeps the world at war with each other.

Religion also means you belong to an organised group of people worshiping the same god under the same rules. If it is a personal issue, not part of any group or organisation, praying or interacting with a god is not neccessary a religion. What are you so uptight about religion anyway? You surely do not seem religious....and it so easy to point your ignorant finger at religious groups. You go read about the religions of the world, you read about the good it has done and what it can mean to people, you find out a little bit more before you go judge others, ok? You seem young and confused...good luck

That's the thing with dictionaries, they thought they know everything..
Religion is different from faith, if you look into the dictionary they are synonyms but if you read the bible, they're not..
a religious person is a person who is part of a congregation or organization and being under their traditions and practices...
being faithful in the other hand is something more real, its not a routine and its not done because everybody else is doing it...being faithful is a decision to begin a relationship with God as if making Him part of your life...
eg:
The Catholicism is a religion but not all Christians are Catholics...Being a Christian means that you have a relationship with Christ and being faithful to Him always...

I claim no religion. Should I change that to I claim no organized religion? Does it make that much of a difference? Most people that call themselves religious associate themselves with an organized group like Christianity or Islam or Hindu or Buddhist. You get the point. My beliefs are always growing and changing and there is no label that fits them. This christian lady that I go and help out (clean her house, mow her lawn, plant flowers ,whatever she needs.) Always tells me what a good christian I am. I have told her so many times that I am not a christian but to her my kindness wins me this label. I think of myself as a spiritual person. That definition also has some part in the church and religion. It also says of the spirit or soul. Caring much for things of the spirit or soul. supernatural. That defines me. I am the soul. I will make a point of wording my answers better.

I believe that it's a lack of understanding of the former or the latter. However being "religious" is a loose term. We can be religious about tying our shoes the same way or be religious about the way we work and so on. It's not about having religion, it's about having a relationship with Jesus and we should be religious about that.

You're right in that religion is among the worlds biggest problems. In the name of religion more atrocities have been committed than were ever even thought of in Nazi Germany. Don't get me wrong, I don't just mean Christianity here.

I guess it's how these people you mention define 'religious'. Perhaps to them, 'religious' means 'closely following' a particular religion. You could probably say that these people pray when they see the need to, instead of doing so on a regular basis.

Because Christianity is not a religion but a reality.
We need Christ's forgiveness, that's the reality.

For the same reason agnostics claim they're not atheists.
It's easier to sit on the fence than it is to make a commitment.
