The Bible is all there is to suggest that there was such a character and all that is in the Bible is hearsay written by anonymous folk no earlier than 40yrs after Jesus supposedly died, these scripts were later heavily edited and attributed to saints whilst the remainder is totally fabricated. There are no contemporary eyewitness accounts of Jesus, Josephus mentions Jesus but was born way after Jesus supposedly died and so anything he wrote was merely hearsay...there is nothing to say the Bible is true except the bible itself ... would you believe a book just because the book itself tells you to believe it...I simply don't.

Wink winkelmann, I think Jesus was a fairly common name then, there were also many previous so-called Jesus messiahs before the Nazarene version, it was a local messianic legend of primitive desert folk.

Angel, The Qu'ran wasn't written till hundreds of years after Jesus supposedly lived & died, I fail to see the relevance of it in this matter, it is a Johnny come lately...too late in fact.

Amazing how so many people actually believe there is evidence supporting the Jesus myths.
The only evidence anyone has that a person named Jesus of Nazareth existed is the bible itself. The primary reason people believe it to be true is because the Roman Empire executed anyone who refused to accept it as true.
"Christianity" is the biggest fraud in the history of mankind.

Report him to who? Pontius Pilate? It's been done. Palm Pilot? That's a better course of action. Pilates? It might strengthen the core...if not the core belief.
The historic record is doubtful, but I give the benefit that a person, a teacher, existed. What other people have done in his name is another matter. I don't know what the existence of plant life has to do with it, but the Pharisaic Jew and historian Flavius Josephus's writing is in doubt -- he would not have called him the Christ, but the surviving versions of his works have him doing just that.
There is a passage by Tacitus (writing that Christians "derived their name and origin from Christ, who, in the reign of Tiberius, had suffered death by the sentence of the procurator Pontius Pilate"), but it seems more that he is describing what the sect was about and that someone was killed. The passage also has two titular problems: Christ is a title, not a name and Pilate was a prefect, not a procurator.
The more removed from the events, the more dubious the writings are, as they would be relying on word of mouth, some of which may have been distributed by the Flying Spaghetti Monster, RAmen to his name.
I think it unlikely that the writings and stories that credibly come from the years immediately following his death could have been created out of whole cloth, although the interpretation and embellishment that followed them is wild. Even before the gospels that attest to his existence show indications of having been written to sway particular audiences.

I have been reluctantly drawn away from the whole religion thing gradually over the pasty 10 years. There is more proof of aliens than there is of god.The Discovery Channel has been a major influence also.I watched a study that they did trying to prove if we could have possibly come from "Adam and Eve". And of course it's a big NO. We would have to all share at least 1 same gene or 1 same chromosone. And we don't.That would mean that there would have to have been a black Adam and Eve, a chinese, ect.
Overall I think that the bible is just a bunch of moral stories to keep people satisfied with an explanation to all of the questions that they had no answers for. Just like the devil is just a way to scare people into being good.

Jesus could have been just some guy who was a rabbi with a handful of followers. If he was as big a deal as the gospels claim, there would be independent verification though. If he truly had a big parade for him when he re-entered Jerusalem, some historians would have mentioned it. If there truly was this big eclipse when he died, an ancient astronomer would have mentioned it. If when he died there really had been a great earthquake and the dead all rose up out of their graves and walked around (as at least one gospel said), other historians would have mentioned it. But not only is the earthquake and the dead rising not mentioned by other historians, it isn't even mentioned in all four gospels! So it's clear someone was exaggerating, at the very least.

We know that Jesus was a person that existed because of
independant reports like the Roman Gov, but other than that
we really dont know anything about him of any substance. I
think his popularity is because the person that invented the
Gregorian Calendar used mainly in the western world used his
supposed birth as a datum line. The Bible is a collection of
writings by folks and may or may not be true..we have no way
of knowing and makes no difference to me anyway. The old
testament is especially rediculous and irrelevant. Dont hold your
breath waiting for Jesus to come back to save you from something or other.

The Bible is made up of several different Books. Other Books, and Gospels, exist that werent included in the Bible. Christ undoubtedly existed. What that may mean is entirely open to speculation, but enough real evidence, including Roman documents that have nothing to do with radical Middle Eastern death cults, exists to say that indeed Jesus Christ did live.

I bet you believe there is no electric current running through your computer when the thing is switched off from the monitor, but you have no proof of that. And yet you still would not cut the cable.
You know that a tomato is red and you believe it to be red because someone has told you it is.
You believe someone has a toothache when they tell you they have, headache also.
You believe there is a war in Iraq, yet you only see images on tv, this could just be a TV show.
There are many things you take for granted as a given, but you choose one of the few to disbelieve, ask yourself why?

There is a lot of credible evidence, outside of the Bible, that attests to the authenticity and reality of Jesus' human existance. There have been documents and other items attributed to "James, the brother of Jesus who was called Christ" , as well as documents and items found in Roman history that attest to the person of Jesus having existed.

Jesus did walk the earth. He was an intuitive young man born into a Jewish tribe and spoke of the wonders of his Father but his divinity can not be proven. There are no handwriting samples of Jesus', no blood samples of Jesus', no clothing or personal effects that belong to Jesus. Do you need evidence? Why? Faith has its' rewards.
Your decision. Your reality is not the perception of how others live their lives. That's no reason to disrespect others' beliefs.

We all have to believe in something bigger than ourselves to get through life. Some people believe in UFO's, others in yoga.etc. Some people believe in god or gods and goddesses. So let it be. As long as they are kind, loving people it doesn't really matter what they believe in. It's all good, unless it hurts someone or themselves. Then they do need a reality check about how to live your life to it's fullest without clobbering the next guy over the head with personal beliefs.-T
