At my website, I will have a section for each religion. When you go on to the page for a specific religion, I'd like to have some Quick Facts about the religion, so you can get some basic info about it with just a glance.

For example,

http://www.pathsofdevotion.com/sikhism.html

On my Sikhism page, I just put this little table there with info on 3 things:
1. Founder
2. Date Founded
3. Number of Adherents, and where most of the Adherents are located.

Besides these 3 things, what would be some other good "Quick Facts" to include for each of the religions? What would you most like to see there?

Thanks.

P. S. Oh, and by the way, if the table and the text don't line up, I apologize. I haven't quite figured that out yet. This is in a rudimentary stage!

I would like to see a brief history of the religion,
facts about and anecdotes from founder's life, and myths/ legends surrounding the religion.

You have forgotten the name of Religious text that they follow(Guru Granth Sahib)
and the most important shrine(s) of religion, eg. Mecca for Muslims, Golden Temple, Amritsar for Sikhs.

I question how the number of adherents is relevant. Are matters of the spirit a popularity contest? 'Basic Beliefs' would be a good category to add, so that people would be able to find out what some of the core ideas of that faith are. A faith is all about it's core beliefs, right? A Christian who doesnt think that Christ is Divine and the only way to salvation really isnt a Christian, is he/she? They might be a Follower of Christ, but not a Christian. An Odinist who doesn't believe in Odin could still be an Asatru, but not an odiinist. With New Age Paganism, should you choose to include it, the founders and founding dates might be confusing and/or a Lost Cause. You might find, through this exercise, that it's not always easy to define or categorize religions.

You've gotten some good suggestions. If you're looking for just one sentence factiods, then as said earlier, various sacred texts. And maybe a list of main sects.
BTW, I noticed that as of yet you have no pages on the Church of the Irredeemable Asocial. I'm assuming this oversight is due purely to time constraints, and will be corrected in the very near future.

Heron, what a wonderful idea! Perhaps it would be useful to have a table of all the religions so you can compare things side-by-side. Sorted say from the oldest to the newest (or other criteria). Maybe geography would be good too (ie countries/regions of the religion). If I think of more I'll post.

other things will be some information about basic commandments and concept of God. and dates of their celebrations. prohibited things in each religion. etc

and yes.. let me remind you,, i hope you know that Muhammad pbuh is not the founder of islam.

Many people have the misconception that Islam is the new religion and Prophet Muhammad pbuh founded Islam. Prophet Muhammad is not the founder of Islam but he is the last and final messenger of Allah. Islam is there since Man sets foot on Earth. In fact, the first man on earth i.e. Adam pbuh was first messenger of Allah.

How about adding holidays, and a few basic facts about their belief system? Those are easy enough to do and find.

Knowledge without understanding means a lot of confusion and big, big danger.
Please start practicing .... again. Be not afraid. All is meant to be for your own good.

Sikhism is a branch of Hinduism.

A Hindu is a "Sahajdhari" Sikh. A Sikh is a "Keshdhari" Hindu.

"Hinduism is a generic name given to all the faiths which have roots in India and believe in Parmatma (God), Prarthana (prayer), Punerjanma (reincarnation), Purushartha (Karma) and Prani Daya (kindness to all living beings)." Sikhism believes in all of these.

The Granth contains specific references to Hindu gods such as Rama and Krishna. The gurudwaras, or Sikh temples, have always been decorated with pictures of Hindu devas and devis. The first desecration of these pictures was in 1906 at Harmandir, and this was the first action taken by separatist Sikhs.

Reference is made to the avatars of Vishnu in the Granth Sahib. The Dasma Granth deals with all the avatars beginning on page 169. Volume two of the Dasma Granth is exclusively based on Krishna. It is accepted that Guru Gobind Singh was a staunch believer in Durga Mata (Mother Goddess). In the entire Guru Granth Sahib, the Vedas are respected and referred to as sacred. Guru Gobind Singh states that the Vedas originated from Brahma and the path of the Vedas is the only path for the people to follow. Sikhism heavily bases itself on Karma yoga (the science of actions) and states that if an individual acts only on good deeds, selfless acts with a pure devotion to God, they can achieve the ultimate state of existence.

The speech of one of the greatest modern Sikh leaders, Master Tara Singh, at a meeting in Bombay on August 19, 1964, who declared:

"Sikhs and Hindus are not separate. Sikhs will survive only if Hindus survive. Sikhs are part and parcel of the Hindu Society. Guru Govind Singhji brought in Gurumukhi the wisdom and philosophy from our scriptures and Puranas. Are we going to give up this heritage?"

Taha hum adhik tapasya sadhi
Mahakal kalika aradhi
~ Guru Govind Singh
(There I worshipped and did penance to seek Kali.)

Ram katha jug jug atal
Sab koi bhakhat net Suragbas Raghuver kara
Sagri puri samet Jo en Katha sune aur gaave
Dukh pap tah nikat na aave
~ Guru Govind Singh
(The story of Ram is immortal and everyone should read it. Ram went to heaven along with the whole city. Whoever listens to or sings His story, will be free of sin and sorrow.)

Kahaiya Hinduan daro na ab tum
Im likho pathon dil sain Guru Nanak ki gadi par
Ab hain Tegh Bahadur Unko jo Muhummadi kar lihoon
To ham hain sab sadar Arya Dharma rakhak pragatiyo hain
~ Guru Tegh Bahadur
(Hindus, do not fear, Guru Tegh Bahadur is Guru Nanak's successor. If Muslims bother you, I'll take care of them. For I am the protector of Hinduism.)

Tin te sun Siri Tegh Bahadur
Dharam nibaahan bikhe Bahadur Uttar bhaniyo, dharam hum Hindu
Atipriya ko kin karen nikandu Lok parlok ubhaya sukhani
Aan napahant yahi samani Mat mileen murakh mat loi
Ise tayage pramar soi Hindu dharam rakhe jag mahin
Tumre kare bin se it nahin
~ Guru Tegh Bahadur's reply to Aurangzeb's ordering him to embrace Islam.
(In response, Shri Tegh Bahadur says, My religion is Hindu and how can I abandon what is so dear to me? This religion helps you in this world and that, and only a fool would abandon it. God himself is the protector of this religion and no one can destroy it.)
Sakal jagat main Khalsa Panth gaje
Jage dharam Hindu sakal bhand bhaje
~ Guru Govind Singh
(The Khalsa sect will roar around the world. Hinduism will awaken, its enemies will flee.)

Sikh Guru always called themselves Hindus.

Sikh Sect was formed deliberately to create a martial branch of Hinduism to fight agaist oppression of Hindus by Muslim rulers.

Sikh do worship Goddess Durga and her other forms. They regularly visit temples .

Some sparatists Sikh may deny this. But most of them are really backed up by western organizations which prefer a weak hindu community. Evangelicans tried to separte hindus in as small communities as they could. but that is another story.

At the most the difference between sanatani hindus and sikh hindus is something like catholics and protestants. but just like both of those sects are christian. sanatani and sikhs both are hindus.

I have Sikh neighbours. And just other day one of my Sikh neighbour was telling me "we, Hindus are very careless about our social and religious identity". She was talking about religious identity yet she counted both of us in the same group.

It can not be said that Islam had no affect on sikhism either. The idea of A book was very much adopted by Guru Govind Singh. But he did not do it to separate Sikhs from Hindus. He did not wanted the Guru linage to continue. He called the book "Guru Granth".

He was trying to turn Hindus in fighters against oppression and fight for justice.

Sikh Gurus tried to take back possesion of Ayoddhya temple of Rama (Babary Mosque). They fought for Kashmeeree Hindus in the valley. Just read Indian History of Mugal period and you will get a clear picture.

For 400 years Hindus have been donating their son to Sikh Pantha to fight for the cause. The rest of the family was also sikh yet Hindu.
