The 350ZX definitely accelerates faster than the RX-8. Both handle extremely well and it would be hard to choose between the two taking a curve at speed.
The rotary (Wankel) engine isn't new. It's been around since the 70s, first in the RX-3, then in the RX-7. Terrific power to weight ratio, lousy fuel economy. Of course, there aren't a heckuva lot of people around who know how to work on a rotary engine. You may be stuck with a Mazda dealer for any repairs.
If you're looking for a daily driver, choose the RX-8. It's a lot quieter and has a much better ride quality. All in all, it's just easier to live with if you have to spend a lot of time in the car. If you're just going to go racing around on the weekends, get the 350ZX. It's got an edge over the RX-8 because of the better acceleration.

Depends on what you want.
I believe the RX8 has a faster acceleration than the 350z, but the 350z has a higher top speed.
The RX8 is a rotary, so you'll either have to learn to work on it yourself or find a mechanic that works on rotaries. Cool concept, but specialized engine which means requiring a mechanic that has the special knowledge to work on the vehicle.

want sumthen 4 every day use? go 4 the RX-8. want a sports tourer that loves coast-hugging roads and fast pased acceleration? go for the 350Z. both look great(i think the Z looks slightly better), the rx-8 had 2 extra seats which r actually very useful. the 350Z has better economy, more boot space and a better auto(5-speed Vs. 4speed, though that is expected to soon change with a 6-speed auto coming from the CX-7). me? id go wif the RX-8. more space, better interior.

The previous answer is a good one. Rotary engines are a new thing. my prove out to be expensive maintainance in the long run. I would go for the z. Plus you gotta drive both to feel the difference.
