It is from the Hebrew Amayn meaning "let it be so". The longer version of this would be Kayn Yihi Ratzon.
In Jewish practice, it isn't something you would say after your own prayer, but rather something you would say after hearing someone else's prayer. So it acts as an affirmation that you agree with what the other person has said.

Amen is a word, it is a noun. You say it after finishing a Christian prayer. Just like' For what we are about to receive may the lord make make us truely thankful. Amen.

Well, this is going to sound silly, but the way it was used all the while I grew up saying it, I came to think of it as meaning something like, "Signing off!" or "Over and out!"
LOL.
Of course, it means "so be it" or "it is true" or something along those lines.

it's one of the language of the Angels. by saying Amen you submit your prayers. just like how you sign something at the end or approve something at the end.
amen = to approve your prayer

Saying "amen" at the end of a prayer signifies one's agreement with what was prayed. It basically means "so be it" or "let it be so".

it simply means 'i agree' or 'so be it'
it has turned into a spiritual phrase (particularly Christian) that people use to confirm their belief in God and his work, and to agree with the things people say to him in prayer.
