Elvis died too soon but his era as king had passed and he was no longer making revolutionary or relevant music.
Many religions outlived their usefulness long ago and are no longer relevant but it's like they are being kept alive artificially on a ventilator machine, perhaps it's time to switch off.

tylejd, I simply said that things become bloated and often have accelerated growth before dying...we see a lot of accelerated growth presently in religous zealotry of all shades.

Interesting observation. The problem with religions, as with all human institutions, is that power corrupts. So if a particular church gets enough followers, money, and power, they no longer really have to be that good. They just have to try to maintain their status. That's just human nature. But we hope for more from our spiritual and religious leaders, but they are just humans in the end.

It is at times like these that popular religion becomes more popular! This is when people turn to the common religious methods instead of relying on the official church, temple priests, or religious power head. If that happens enough, the leaders will get the message eventually, or become even more corrupt as they resort to anything to try to gain back their control.

I've long considered starting the Black Elvis on the Cross Church. Elvis stole rock from the Black Man and sold it to white kids. His life ended in corruption, desperation, and delinquancy much the way rock died with Kurt Cobain.
Dont be so hard on dusty theologies. A Living Religion will re-invent itself to stay vital to the people's needs. I question whether the Catholic Chruch does this. 'Infallability' sounds like an idea that might have 'worked' on the peasants of the Middle Ages, but falls woefully short of being a real concept today. The Church is made up of people. People fail. Even people on good terms with'God'.

You certainly have your facts mixed up. Spirituality and Religion are growing all over the world. The passion for God is growing rapidly especially in our young people. I think it's absolutely wondeful! No matter how much the Church is being persecuted God will never allow it to die. Go to your local Church on Sunday and see why.

People have been predicting the demise of religion for about 200 years now. Your idea is not new or particularly insightful.
