1. Software to use : nero ver. 6 or 7.
2. Select "DVD", not VCD, then select "Photo and Video".
3. Select file(s) to be recorded on the browsing window.
4. Drag or right-click to copy the file(s) to compilation window.
(nero will automatically convert the file(s) to DVD format, if the file type is convertable. If not, you have to convert the source file(s) using other software, i.e. Xilisoft Video Converter. If your source file(s) is/are of unrecognized type(s), this conversion effort must be done by try and error).
5. Use good quality of DVD Recordable disk.
6. Lower the burning speed to gain better recording.
Enjoy your film!

you need to use a DVD authoring program, such as Nerovision, to convert the .avi into standard DVD format.
If you have nerovision, make sure you select 'dvd' as the burning format, then just add the .avi file to the project. nerovision will automatically generate a start menu etc. which you can customise if you like - then you create the dvd.
it will take a while for the program to convert the avi into the correct format, and then it will burn to disc...
another option, if you want more professional menus and functionality, is Adobe Encore....

Do not use cheap DVD recordables, you often get read errors.
What type of DVD recorder and DVD burning software are you using?. You will need an AVI to DVD file converter.
