Our Westie has Addison's. It was detected after cancer surgery 2 years ago. He is on a daily dose of prednisone(2.5mg) and goes for injections every 28 days. They say he will be on this form of treatment for life. The vet changed the dosage of prednisone to 2.5 every other day. Four weeks later he began to vomit every morning. The vet put him back to his regualr daily dosage.
Any feedback on how you care for your pet who has Addison's Disease would be appreciated.

I belong to the Addison's support group. They have great calanders you can buy to support Addison's Research! You can have you pets photo and birth date included in the calander.

There are TWO support lists for owners of addison's disease dogs. Their home sites are www.addisondogs.com and www.k9addisons.com

These list have a combined total membership of over 1,000 people - the dogs remain active & happy (even compeating in dog sports such as agility), some have been dealing with addisons for 10 years (handy hint: addison's is unlikly to shorten your dogs life.).
As you have already discovered every other day pedisone is often a bad idea as it has a efective timespan of about 36 hrs. However 2.5 is a rather stiff daily dose for an addisoian (who need a fraction of what would be used to treat an allergy) you may eventually want to trim that down slowly. Human pharmacies can fill a vet 'script and usually have pred in 1 mg tablets and liquid form to make small dose changes possible

excuse my adisoian whippet is currently pesting me for breakfast

My dog does not have it but we had a dog at the clinic that was diagnosed with it and the only treatment was the Prednisone or Prednisilone (steroids). He did really well so hopefully your will too. I have only seen that one case in 5 years of working at the clinic. Good Luck!
