Only if you have farted repeatedly and loud enough for them to arrive to that conclusion anyway

yeah i don't think you need to announce that your going to the bathroom, it's pretty much assumed by everyone else what your doing. also I hate when people say i have to go to the bathroom in a public announcement kind of matter. what do you want us to do wish you luck or pray that everything works right, have a little cheer and maybe do the wave when you come back, sorry just a little pet peeve. back to the question at a resturant situation just saying " If you'll excuse for a moment I'll be right back" works perfect

It is polite to excuse yourself from the table, but not necessary to announce to the whole table that you have to go potty. That's is a private activity and not everyone needs the mental picture of you on the pot while they are trying to eat dinner. THAT'S GROSS!

when i'm excusing myself, i just say i have to powder my nose.... its not the truth but better than announcing to all that you have to use the bathroom, but it conveys the same meaning only in a more polite way.

No you don't have to eplain why, and if it's to go to the bathroom it's considered more pollite to just say "Excuse me" and go.

But it's not realy rude or anything to explain why, so do what you will.

that just puts the picture of you being on the toilet in anyone's head, listening to you. no excuse is nessessary. just politlley say "may i be excused" and leave the table

No, I would not tell them I was visiting the restroom. I think I would not want to think about someone going to the bathroom while I was eating.

No you don't, it's sufficient to request that you be excused for a short while. and if anyone asks why then you dont have to answer them just look at them as though they are stupid which they are.

People might expect you to tell them why you are to be excused. I would tell them that I will be back in a minute...or that I go to refresh myself (that leaves everything open...)

I would just say that I need to powder my nose and I'll be right back in a minute.

yes. I think you have to explain yourself because others might think you are leaving completely and consider you rude.
