OK, can anyone tell me what the big difference is with a baby just before and just after it is born? There is no change, except in atmosphere. So that can't be when it becomes a person. So when before that is there a distinct change? The only point is that of conception. So it is logical to think that at that moment, that baby becomes human. Now there is no scientific proof of this, but neither is there proof the other way. And wouldn't you want to err on the side of caution, instead of saying, "Well, we're not sure if we are killing somebody, but we'll take a chance."?
So it seems that an unborn baby must be treated as a person. Well then it doesn't just concern the woman's body, but the baby's body as well. And since that baby is considered a human, then it would be murder to kill it.
And you say that if it was a rape, that you wouldn't want a reminder. Well lets say you and a friend got beaten up, would you then kill your friend because he might remind you of that incident? That would be stupid. And why is it that so many women have mental problems after they have an abortion? Because deep down some innate sense tells them that it is wrong, and they try not to heed its guilty voice.
As you can tell, I am pro life. No matter what you think though, it boils down to this: There is no scientific proof either way as to when a baby becomes a person. Therefore, for now we have to rely on logic. I outlined the logical argument above. So why take the chance that we are killing little persons, who have every right to our respect? Cheers!
*edit*
I forgot to mention the financial situation thing. How does being in a bad financial situation justify killing somebody. Why don't we just go kill all those homeless people, and put them out of their misery? If you are not in a position to raise a child, then don't engage in the procreative act. What if its rape? Well, perhaps all the money that goes into abortion mills could go toward supporting and rehabbing rape victims.
The problem is that we live in a irresponsible society, and don't want to be held accountable for our actions. We want to satisfy our lust. Abortion is a way of 'covering up' our actions. Which is despicable if you ask me. Cheers!

You are entitled to your opinion and I respect that you disagree with abortion. I think, though, that you are missing a few very important factors.
1. You should be thinking about how much you love your son and how you can better his life when you look at him, not worry about what everyone else is doing.
2. Abortion is legal up until 12 weeks (sometimes 24 but only in extreme circumstances where the baby or mother or both will die during childbirth) and at 12 weeks, that foetus is NOT a life. It is only a life when, if you take it out of the womb, it could survive.
3. What about women who have been raped? Should they be forced to keep the baby regardless of how emotionally scarred they may become just because you don't like abortion?
4. If you got pregnant and knew there was no way you could support it emotionally or financially would you keep it?
5. Adoption can be more detrimental to your and the child's emotional health than abortion can.
I think that you need to seriously consider this. Just because you were lucky enough to be in a situation where you could emotionally and financially support a child, doesn't mean everyone is so lucky. Our compassion is understanding that some women don't have any other alternative. You need to understand that.
When I read your question I was quite prepared to write you off but I decided that if you heard our side of the argument, you might one day keep those thoughts to yourself if you still have them.
I can only hope that you never have to go through the heartache that I have been through and I hope that hearing my side might make you understand the flip side of the coin.

You know Democrats are now considering changing the stance on abortion? Two reasons, they are losing votes, and jobs.
Democrate women are more likley to abort than repubican women, hence more republicans have been born since Roe V. Wade, and are now becoming legal voting age, and democrats need those votes. Also, because of abortions 1 MILLION fetuses are killed each year, meaning that in the coming years, our work force will decrease, and there will be more jobs than there are people to hold them. Guess the liberals shot themselves in the foot.
I think abortion could be a necessary evil when it comes to rape, incest, or health of monther or child. BUT ONLY in those cases.
Abortion should NOT be a matter of reproductive choice. Hey ladies, try this on for size, if you want choice, CHOOSE to not get pregnant. If you arent ready for a baby, keep those legs shut! A possible outcome of sex is pregnancy. When you choose to have sex, you have made your choice, not 3 months down the line when you decide maybe a baby isnt what you want. Dont want one, dont do what it takes to get you there until you are prepared for the outcome.
However, it is legal, and it will likley always stay that way. People are so brainwashed into believing it is a lump of cells, or a fetus, or not alive, that they miss the truth. It has a heart beat at 6 weeks, it feels pain at about 12 weeks, and it is capable of survival at about 6 months, and yet women will still abort after those milestones are reached.
We allow it to happen because the government gives us no way to change it. Do you know the last 3 elections have been won by electoral college voting, and not an actual MAJORITY of the people? The government has bound our hands, talling us we have freedom, we can make a diffrence, and thats not true at all. They have brainwashed the American public too.
It is a sad statment to the real truth of government and law, that something like abortion can be so easily obtained, ignored, and practiced in such a heartless manner as to suck a living creature apart, on the whim of the on person who should protect it.
Sorry, guess I got off on a rant.
Anyway.....

Abortion is legal in the US because the US does not have a legitimate definition for what it means to be a living human being.
On the one hand, abortion is legal. On the other, it is often considered murder if anyone else harms the mother and causes the unborn child to die.
If a woman is carrying twins and one is born 3 months premature, it gains the right to live. If the other twin is carried to full term, the mother still has the right to abort it until the moment it is born.
That is insane. In a modern society with all our advanced medical knowledge, the right to life should not be granted based on such an archaic and randomly determined time as the moment of birth. A legitimate definition for the beginning of life would apply equally to everyone and should be chosen based on modern scientific understanding of early fetal development.
If the life of the mother is in danger in the third trimester and the child must be removed from her womb, why is it necessary to first suck out its brains with a vacuum? Children in the US are born premature every day and most still manage to survive with the help of modern technology. The children of injured mothers should be given the same opportunity.

and what if the mother is not going to nurture this baby because she doesn't want it.
if there is no abortion the only choices left are to live with a mother who doesn't care about the child and may abuse it, or she isn't ready to be a mother and isn't going to pay much attention to the kid because she wants to go out, or the child will be put up for adoption in a system that is already overcrowded. ask any foster kid and they will tell you that it's not a good place
to be.
add to that overpopulation.
now tell me which is the better choice.
jammanwe, there are not that many women who have mental problems after having an abortion, that is pro-life propaganda. most women who regret their abortions are women who didn't want to get them in the first place but were talked into it by a partner or parent.
also choice is the right to choose not to have an abortion. you don't have to get one but who are you to tell someone else what their morals should be?

I'm with you. Someone on here asked a question before about sickos hurting our babies and children and yet so many babies get ripped out of the womb and it is alright.
I have 4 kids and even if I fell pregnant again I would be thrilled. Also there are so many couples who can't have children, why don't these mothers give their child to someone who will want it, but instead they kill it because they are a coward

Abortion is legal because of the way our government and society thinks. They don't want to infringe on a woman's so called "right" to do what she wants with her body. Some people in our society and government also see abortion as ethical because the bible mentions nothing on the matter, but the bible does say thou shall not murder, feces or human being, thou shall not murder is the point. If a woman just couldn't keep her legs closed then she should have to open them back up for that baby to come out.

You have preached the message to this choir member! It is our silence that has allowed such to become legal. I joking say if it legal to kill them the first 9 months then why shouldn't be legal for a mother to make that choice at any point in their life until they leave home? What would be the difference? Unfortunately in the name of Christianity a few radicals have made it hard for the rest of us to make a peaceful stand. Family.org has lots of resources and political activities that can in this matter as Private citizens. Also, history has taught us that before the fall of every great civilization life has become without value, drugs have become sustenance, homosexuality has become acceptable, laws of morality have become governed by the law instead of by the church and that little difference has been noted between separation and church and I think we see the fall of American civilization every day. We have chosen to close our eyes to what history has taught and forewarned us, we have closed our hearts to God -a and the punishment is now ours to be fallen upon the just and the unjust alike.

The only reason abortion is legal in the US is to appease feminists and pro-choicers. The government does not want to deal with their tantrums. The US knows abortion is murder. Thus, killing a mother and her unborn child, (fetus, still dependant and joined to the mother) is "Double Murder".
