they can report it all they like, but the child isn't liable for any bills run up in his name.

not if said child is under the age of 18. In the states it is illegal to enter any sort of contract with a person under the age of 18.
they are only saying that to scare you into paying the bill. Dont! there is nothing they can do about it...unless you cosigned. If you did then you are screwed.

no, and its actually illegal for any company to run a credit check on any persons under the age of 18, so they can report it all they want, and it will show up on a credit report in later years, but with the child turning 18 , and simple proof of age, photo id and social security card, the person can have it easily ex-sponged from their credit record, no hassle

you cannot enter into a valid legal contract with a minor, without parental authorisation at the least, so if that company is doing such, then its highly unethical
